How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Estimator (Roofing & Maintenance)
    Bedford | Full-time | £45,000 - £55,000 pa + Bonus + Benefits

    Building Transformation are a niche external building fabric access and maintenance company based in Bedford, working predominantly in the Southeast. We are looking for an experienced Roofing Estimator with experience of costing and estimating various roof repair, roof leak investigation, maintenance, and full refurbishment projects. The role will require strong client engagement, site surveys, interpreting drawings, creating technical specifications, working with suppliers, engaging with sub-contractors and costing a wide variety of roofing projects. Ideally, you will support with other façade refurbishment type projects, variable based on experience.

    Your role at a glance:
    This is a key role within the commercial team, where you will manage the estimating process from initial enquiry through to submission, supporting both existing clients and new business opportunities.

    You will:

    Manage the end-to-end estimating process, ensuring accurate and timely submissions. 
    Review enquiries, drawings, and specifications to define scope, risks, and opportunities. 
    Carry out site surveys to inform methodology, scope, and pricing. 
    Prepare detailed, commercially sound estimates including labour, materials, and subcontractor packages. 
    Develop clear scopes of work, specifications, and proposal documents. 
    Identify value engineering opportunities to improve competitiveness while maintaining quality. 
    Work closely with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing and technical inpu.t 
    Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate costing on more complex or integrated projects. 
    Support tender submissions, negotiations, and handover to delivery teams. 
    Track pipeline activity, win rates, and performance to support commercial reporting. 

    This role would suit someone who enjoys combining technical understanding with commercial awareness, and who takes pride in producing accurate, well-considered estimates. 

    What we’re looking for:
    We’re looking for a commercially aware, detail-focused Estimator who can deliver accurate, competitive proposals and support business growth.

    You will bring:

    Experience in estimating within roofing, construction, facades or building maintenance. 
    Strong understanding of roofing systems, repairs, and refurbishment works. 
    The ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and survey data. 
    Experience preparing detailed cost plans, including labour, materials, and subcontractor elements. 
    Strong commercial awareness, including pricing strategy, margin, and risk. 
    Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. 
    Strong numerical and analytical skills. 
    The ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines effectively. 
    Good communication skills, with the ability to explain technical and commercial information clearly. 
    A proactive, solutions-focused approach to problem-solving. 
    Desirable (but not essential):

    Experience working with JCT/NEC contracts 
    Experience contributing to tender submissions and client presentations 
    Just as important is your mindset. You will be organised, curious, and motivated to continuously improve accuracy, efficiency, and commercial performance.
