Mecdhspan are seeking a talented and motivated Transport Planner for Shotton Mill £1.6 Billion Redevelopment project. You will be responsible for planning and coordinating transportation activities to ensure the cost-effective, timely, safe and sustainable movement of raw materials and finished products. The role ensures transport plans align with production requirements and customer delivery schedules, monitors carrier performance, and supports continuous improvement to deliver best-in-class customer service in a compliant and efficient manner.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and manage day‑to‑day transport activities to ensure materials and products are in the right place at the right time.
Coordinate with production, warehousing, customer service and hauliers to align transport plans with demand.
Ensure all carriers operate in line with health & safety, load security, time slot management and site procedures.
Monitor and optimise transport performance using KPIs such as cost, OTIF, capacity and compliance.
Use Transport Management Systems (TMS) to manage transport plans, visibility and reporting.
Maintain accurate transport and freight data, producing routine performance reports.
Identify and support cost‑saving, efficiency and sustainability initiatives within the transport network.
Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory and company requirements.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Minimum 3 years’ experience in a transport planning role.
Proven experience planning day‑to‑day transport activities within a logistics or supply chain environment.
Good working knowledge of Transport Management Systems (TMS) such as SAP TMS, Aptean, Paragon Routing & Scheduling, Transporeon or similar.
Strong understanding of health, safety and compliance within transport operations.
Demonstrable understanding of continuous improvement methodologies (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma).
Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail while managing high volumes of work.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Ability to work collaboratively and encourage others to achieve common goals.
Competent user of Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
Confident use of email and intranet systems.
Full UK driving licence. Desirable Criteria
CIPS, APICS or equivalent supply chain qualification.
IOSH / NEBOSH health and safety qualification.
Membership of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).
Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Turkish language skills (desirable but not essential). Personal Attributes
