How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Civil Engineer - Highways & Infrastructure | Permanent | Manchester
    I am working with a well-established and highly regarded civil and structural engineering consultancy based in Manchester. Due to a sustained period of growth and a strong project pipeline, they are looking to bring an Intermediate Civil Engineer into their highways and infrastructure team on a permanent basis.
    This is a consultancy that genuinely invests in its people - with a collaborative working culture, clear progression pathways and exposure to a diverse range of projects across both the public and private sector.
    The Role
    As an Intermediate Civil Engineer you will play an active role in the delivery of highways and infrastructure schemes from feasibility through to construction. You will work closely with senior engineers and project managers, taking increasing responsibility for your own projects as your confidence and experience grows.
    Day to day you can expect to be involved in:

    Detailed design of highway and infrastructure schemes
    Preparation of technical reports, drawings and specifications
    Liaison with clients, local authorities and stakeholders
    Supporting the preparation of planning applications and S278/S38 agreements
    Contributing to feasibility studies and site appraisals
    Use of relevant design software including Civil 3D, AutoCAD and MicroDrainageWhat They Are Looking For

    A degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline
    Between 2 and 5 years of experience in a UK consultancy environment
    Solid highways and infrastructure design experience
    Familiarity with relevant standards including the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and Manual for Streets (MfS)
    Working towards or recently achieved Chartered status (ICE or CIHT) - desirable but not essential
    Strong communication skills and the ability to manage your own workload effectively
