How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Astute's Power team is partnering with a leading Power Generation company to recruit a Mechanical Engineer for work across two of its Power Stations located in Northern Ireland.

    The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the safe & efficient operation of the plant through ensuring optimal plant performance, reliability and compliance with regulatory standards. You will oversee a total of 1553MW generating units combined of Gas and Steam Turbines.

    Responsibilities and duties:
    As the Mechanical Engineer you will be responsible for:

    Overseeing and executing mechanical engineering activities including maintenance and engineering work, projects and outages.
    Developing and maintaining an asset management plan to ensure the integrity of crucial assets including turbines (Gas and Steam), pumps, compressors, fans, fuel systems, pipework, valves etc.
    Managing the long-term condition monitoring systems, overseeing predictive maintenance schedules and supporting with troubleshooting and resolving complex mechanical faults.
    Review and management of the mechanical spares, obsolescence strategies and procurement.
    Leading Mechanical Projects including upgrades, replacement work and overhauls.
    Management of contractor performance during outages and capital projects.
    Supporting the management of LTSA's, negotiating scopes and evaluating technical proposals.
    Professional qualifications
    We are looking for someone with the following:

    Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a Mechanical Discipline
    Chartered Mechanical Engineer (or working towards)
    Personal skills
    The Mechanical Engineer role would suit someone with/who:

    Significant mechanical engineering experience ideally gained on a Combined Cycle or Open Cycle Power Station
    At least 10 years experience with mechanical rotating plant
    Knowledge of safety regulations and power station / industry standards including PSSR
    Detailed knowledge of maintenance philosophies
    Project management experience
    Contractor management experience
