How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Probation Officer – Court Reports Writer (Contract)

    Location: Cheshire
    Pay Rate: £28.63 per hour (Ltd/Umbrella) or £21.75 per hour (PAYE equivalent)
    Contract Type: Temporary / Contract
    Hours: Full Time

    Overview
    We are currently recruiting for an experienced Probation Officer to join a busy court team in Cheshire on a full-time contract basis. This role will focus on the preparation of high-quality court reports, including same-day oral reports and written assessments, to support effective sentencing outcomes.
    This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Probation Officer with recent court experience who is confident managing fast-paced workloads and working directly within criminal justice settings.

    Key Responsibilities

    Prepare and deliver accurate and timely Pre-Sentence Reports (PSRs) for court proceedings
    Conduct risk assessments and analyse offending behaviour using recognised assessment tools
    Provide sentencing recommendations to the court in line with current legislation and National Probation Service guidance
    Undertake same-day report writing and oral report delivery where required
    Liaise effectively with magistrates, judges, legal representatives, police, prisons and partner agencies
    Manage safeguarding and public protection concerns appropriately
    Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records on internal systems
    Contribute to enforcement and compliance processes where necessaryRequirements

    Qualified Probation Officer (PQiP/DipPS or equivalent recognised qualification)
    Current or recent experience working within court teams
    Strong experience completing Pre-Sentence Reports and risk assessments
    Sound knowledge of criminal justice legislation and probation practice standards
    Ability to work efficiently under pressure within a court environment
    Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain)Desirable

    Recent experience within HM Prison & Probation Service
    Knowledge of OASys and associated probation systems
    Immediate availability or short notice period
