How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Electrical Estimator

    Overview

    An established and growing building services contractor is seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to join its pre-construction team. This is a key role within the commercial function, responsible for producing accurate, competitive, and commercially viable electrical estimates across a wide range of projects within the commercial, industrial, education, healthcare, and residential sectors.

    You will play a vital part in securing new work, supporting bid submissions, and helping to drive profitability through accurate cost planning and value engineering.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Prepare detailed and accurate electrical estimates from drawings, specifications, and tender documentation

    * Carry out take-offs and produce comprehensive cost breakdowns using estimating software

    * Analyse project requirements to identify risks, opportunities, and scope gaps

    * Obtain and assess quotations from suppliers and subcontractors

    * Liaise closely with suppliers, design teams, project managers, and commercial staff during tender stages

    * Develop competitive tenders while maintaining target margins and commercial awareness

    * Contribute to value engineering proposals to improve cost efficiency and buildability

    * Support tender submissions, clarifications, and handover to delivery teams

    * Maintain up-to-date knowledge of material costs, labour rates, and market trends

    * Attend site visits and pre/post-tender meetings where required

    Skills & Experience Required

    * Proven experience as an Electrical Estimator within an M&E or building services contractor

    * Strong understanding of electrical systems (e.g. containment, lighting, small power, LV distribution, fire alarms)

    * Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications confidently

    * Experience producing accurate take-offs and detailed cost plans

    * Strong negotiation and communication skills with suppliers and internal teams

    * Commercial awareness with a focus on profitability and risk management

    * Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Excel

    * Ability to work to deadlines in a fast-paced tendering environment

    Desirable

    * HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or similar

    * Experience working on design & build and/or refurbishment projects

    * Knowledge of relevant regulations (e.g. BS7671)

    * Previous experience within an M&E contractor environment
