How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Connect it Utility Services is a trusted delivery partner across the UK’s utility and power distribution networks. Working closely with DNOs such as SSEN, we deliver safe, compliant and high‑quality electrical infrastructure projects that support network reliability, customer satisfaction and long‑term resilience.

We are looking for an experienced Overhead Lines Supervisor to provide strong site‑based leadership on our SSEN Distribution Network framework.

This role is critical to ensuring overhead line works on LV, 11kV and up to 33kV networks are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest technical standards.

    Responsibilities

    * Organise, coordinate and supervise overhead line teams to ensure works are safely planned, correctly sequenced and efficiently delivered

    * Review work packs, drawings, permits, RAMS and access arrangements to confirm readiness prior to work commencement

    * Provide clear on‑site leadership and technical direction during construction, maintenance and refurbishment activities

    * Supervise service line works, generator connections and daily activities, ensuring compliance with SSEN technical standards and quality requirements

    * Monitor live LV works and overhead line outages up to and including 33kV, ensuring authorisations and safety controls are followed

    * Implement and enforce site‑specific safe systems of work, leading briefings, toolbox talks and point‑of‑work discussions

    * Carry out site inspections and safety observations, addressing hazards, unsafe acts or non‑compliances immediately

    * Oversee or safely coordinate switching, isolations and earthing activities in line with authorisations

    * Ensure plant, tools, MEWPs, vehicles and equipment are suitable, inspected and used correctly

    * Supervise, support and mentor overhead line operatives, promoting productivity, quality workmanship and professional standards

    * Monitor site performance to ensure delivery aligns with programme, quality and SSEN framework expectations

    * Act as the primary on‑site interface between operational teams, management and SSEN representatives

    Skills Required

    * Extensive experience in overhead line construction and maintenance on LV, 11kV and up to 33kV distribution networks

    * Proven ability to supervise teams working in high‑risk electrical environments

    * Strong knowledge of SSEN Electrical Safety Rules, permits, switching processes and safe systems of work

    * Ability to plan, coordinate and prioritise works to meet safety, quality and programme requirements

    * Experience carrying out site inspections, audits and safety observations

    * Clear, confident communicator with the ability to deliver briefings and technical instructions

    * Calm and decisive approach, particularly during outages, faults or abnormal conditions

    Educational Requirements

    * SSEN authorisation for LV overhead line construction and maintenance, with supervisory exposure to 11kV / 33kV networks

    * Pole Top Rescue and Working at Height certification

    * NRSWA accreditation

    * EUSR / SHEA Power

    * NPORS or equivalent MEWP, plant and machinery tickets

    * Emergency First Aid or First Aid at Work

    * Manual Handling and Chainsaw certification where applicable

    * Full UK driving licence and towing capability
