How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Principal Mechanical Design Engineer - Electric Motors
    Norwich area, Norfolk                                                  
    £60-75k (flexible) + benefits

    This role requires solid experience with the mechanical design of electric motors.
    As principal mechanical design engineer you will:

    Lead the mechanical design of high voltage electric motors for automotive applications
    Be responsible for thermal performance and physical integration of the motors
    Support the delivery of motors into production (DFM / DFA) The company is involved with the design of HV electric motor drive systems for automotive applications. They require an experience mechanical design engineer with strong hands-on design capabilities to enable the delivery of electric motors from concept to series production.

    Skills / Knowledge Required: Principal Mechanical Design Engineer – Electric Motors

    A degree or higher in a relevant field (e.g. mechanical engineering, automotive engineering)
    At least 5-6 years of relevant design experience aligned to electric motors / electric machines
    Capable with employing thermal management strategies (e.g. air or liquid cooling of motors)
    Experience of taking electric motor designs through to validated prototype stage or ideally into manufacture
    Good experience with DFM / DFA for complex electromechanical devices (e.g. motors)
    Excellent problem solving and failure analysis skills (e.g. FMEA)
    Able to work effectively in a small team environment Other experience (beneficial)

    Experience of devising test and validation processes for electric machines or similar
    Experience of prototype build and test would be very useful
    Ability to travel to meet customer needs would be advantageous You will join a business that values technical excellence and gives engineers the freedom to make a real impact.     This Principal Mechanical Design Engineer role is commutable from Norwich, Thetford, King’s Lynn, Bury St Edmunds, Great Yarmouth, and Lowestoft (under an hour). Hybrid work is possible
