How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Radio Engineer  Coax termination

    • Rate: £210 - per day – LTD
    • Location- Various LU network sites
    • Hours - 11pm - 5am / Sunday to Thursday evening
    • Duration – 6 months, could go on longer.

    Tickets required before starting -
    • DBS check - Within last 6 months
    • Facefit Ticket & mask
    • Asbestos awareness
    • Manual handling
    • Sentinel card - LU access.

    Summary:
    We are seeking two competent Radio Frequency (RF) Radio Engineers, who will be from a rail background, to join our team working across various London Underground (LU) network sites.

    The role involves night shifts from Sunday to Thursday, typically between 11pm and 5am, with hours potentially varying depending on location and job requirements. The successful candidates will be responsible for COAX termination, installing, terminating, and testing various RF cables, including 7/8 and ½ RF cables, ensuring reliable wireless communication systems in rail environments such as tunnels, stations, and trackside areas.

    Key duties include designing and optimising RF coverage using Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) and leaky feeder systems, conducting RF surveys, testing, and troubleshooting to maintain communication performance, and supporting installation, commissioning, and integration with rail telecoms technologies such as GSM-R and LTE/5G. Engineers must be familiar with schematics and have hands-on experience with coaxial cable termination, specifically SCF12, LCF12, and LCF78 connectors.

    Testing experience using Anritsu equipment would be an advantage, with Passive Intermodulation (PIM) testing considered a bonus. Compliance with safety and industry standards is critical, and candidates must hold valid tickets and certifications including a recent DBS check (within 6 months), Facefit ticket and mask, asbestos awareness, manual handling, and a Sentinel card for LU access.

    Skills:
    • Coax termination -proficient coax termination experience with SCF12, LCF12, and LCF78 connectors.
    • From a Rail background
    • Installation and testing of various sized RF cables (7/8 and ½ RF cables) – essential
    • Design, testing, and maintenance of wireless communication systems in rail environments
    • RF propagation, link budget calculations, and interference mitigation
    • Familiarity with RF schematics and documentation
    • Testing experience using Anritsu test equipment.
    • Knowledge of Passive Intermodulation (PIM) testing (advantageous)
    • Experience with Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) and leaky feeder systems
    • Understanding of rail telecoms systems such as GSM-R and LTE/5G
    • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
    • Software/Tools:
    • Anritsu RF test equipment
    • RF planning and design tools (e.g., iBwave, Atoll) – desirable
    • Certifications & Standards:
    • DBS check (within last 6 months)
    • Facefit ticket and mask
    • Asbestos awareness
    • Manual handling
    • Sentinel card for London Underground access
