How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job Title

    Java Developer

    Day Rate

    £500/day - Inside IR35

    ROLE DESCRIPTION

    Brio Digital are supporting a consultancy on a major NHS digital programme and are looking for experienced Java Developers to join an established engineering team. You will contribute to the design, build, and delivery of complex, high-availability digital solutions within a large-scale NHS environment, working alongside architects, testers, and product teams to deliver quality software at pace.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Design, develop, and maintain robust Java-based applications across the programme
    Build and deploy cloud-native solutions using AWS services, following well-architected principles
    Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code in line with agreed engineering standards
    Collaborate with the Technical Architect and wider engineering team to implement agreed technical patterns and approaches
    Participate in code reviews, contributing to a culture of quality and continuous improvement
    Troubleshoot and resolve issues across development, test, and live environments
    Contribute to CI/CD pipeline development and automated testing practices
    Engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders as required throughout delivery

    SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

    NHS experience is essential
    Strong, demonstrable Java development experience across complex, enterprise-scale programmes
    Solid AWS experience across core services including EC2, Lambda, S3, and RDS
    Experience working within CI/CD environments using tooling such as GitHub Actions or equivalent
    Familiarity with NHS technical standards and compliance frameworks an advantage
    Comfortable working in an Agile delivery environment
    Able to work independently and remotely with occasional travel to London
