How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Research Analyst

    Salary: £51,014 - £60,016

    Location: London - Hybrid 2 days per week at our London office – 3 days working from home

    Hours: 35

    About us:

    The General Dental Council (GDC) is the statutory body responsible for regulating dental professionals in the UK.

    We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Analyst to sit within the Policy and Research team. Our Research team provide research and statistical analyses in support of the development and delivery of the GDC Strategy and its objectives. Our team provides evidence to inform what GDC does and, where possible, evaluates performance and improvement. We also gather, review and analyse information, including providing statistical analyses of data from our core business functions to help evaluate processes and inform our work to encourage professionalism and to inform our approach to the development of our legal and policy framework.

    About the role:

    - Conduct statistical analysis that supports the work of the Policy and Research team.
    - Collaborate with Policy and Communications colleagues to undertake bespoke analysis to support key strategic initiatives.
    - Translate requirements into accurate data requests to the Business Intelligence team.
    - Quality assuring externally commissioned statistical/data analysis.
    - Translate analysis and insight into actionable points for policy teams.
    - Statistical or data consulting: can blend technical knowledge with understanding and collaboration. Will need to be able to advise on: refining business questions into research or statistical questions, data collection methods, interpretation of data, and translating the implications of externally commissioned research into actions for the GDC.
    - Lead and organise data collection or analysis projects with cross-functional teams (e.g. Policy, Communications, Business Intelligence and IT).

    Person specification:

    - A first degree / higher-level qualification in a social sciences or applied data analysis field, or a higher degree in a relevant subject (such as applied statistics, public health, biostatistics, data science).
    - Experience of using a range of analytical approaches, modelling and appropriate tests (such as Chi-squared, ANOVA, T-tests, logistic-regression, non-parametric tests, factor analysis, or Bayesian analysis).
    - Ability to translate business problems into hypotheses and then select the appropriate statistical test, together with the ability to conduct analysis using statistical packages such as SPSS, R, JASP or Jamovi.
    - Experience in quantitative research methods and analysis of survey data and internal business data.
    - Have experience in reporting statistical outputs in a variety of formats (e.g., reports, presentations, blog, data tables, infographics) and be comfortable discerning the appropriate format from internal clients.
    - Can demonstrate where they have introduced new methods to collect, quality assure or analyse data that have resulted in business improvements.
    - Experience in data cleaning. This role will involve cleaning data, recoding variables, transforming variables, handling missing values, and recoding text/string data.
    - Able to use project management tools (e.g. GANT charts, Project Initiation Documents).
