How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Transition Teacher (SLD) – Year 7 & Year 8
    Location: Hertfordshire, London
    Salary: £34,398 – £52,490 per annum
    Contract: Full Time | Temporary | Long-Term
    Start Date: July 2026

    About the Role

Teach Now is seeking a dedicated and highly adaptable Transition Teacher to join a specialist provision in Hertfordshire, supporting pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) in Year 7 and Year 8.

This role is centred on supporting pupils at a critical stage in their education as they move from primary into secondary school. Pupils are working significantly below age-related expectations, typically at an early years developmental stage, and require a consistent, nurturing, and highly individualised approach to learning.

You will play a key role in ensuring pupils feel secure, engaged, and supported as they adjust to new routines, environments, and expectations.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Plan and deliver a highly personalised, sensory and play-based curriculum tailored to individual needs
    • Support pupils transition into secondary education, focusing on emotional regulation, engagement, and routine
    • Adapt teaching approaches in line with early years frameworks for secondary-aged learners
    • Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants to provide consistent, high-quality support
    • Use and implement communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or other AAC systems
    • Monitor and assess progress against EHCP outcomes and individual learning plans
    • Create a structured, safe, and nurturing learning environment
    • Support pupils with complex communication, sensory, and behavioural needs

    The Ideal Candidate
    • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
    • Has experience working with SLD, SEN, or early years learners
    • Demonstrates a strong understanding of early developmental stages (2–4 years)
    • Is confident managing behaviour using calm, consistent, and positive strategies
    • Has experience working with EHCPs and personalised learning approaches
    • Ideally has experience supporting transition phases (primary to secondary)
    • Is patient, resilient, and committed to inclusive education
    • Has excellent teamwork and communication skills

    The Setting

This is a well-established specialist provision supporting pupils with a wide range of additional needs, including learning difficulties, autism spectrum conditions, and speech and language needs. The setting places a strong emphasis on collaboration with families, external professionals, and the wider community to ensure the best outcomes for every pupil.

Staff benefit from a supportive leadership team, strong collaboration, and a shared commitment to delivering high-quality specialist education.

    Whats on Offer
    • Competitive salary aligned with experience: £34,398 – £52,490
    • A supportive and experienced SEN leadership team
    • Excellent staff-to-pupil ratios
    • Ongoing training and professional development in specialist areas
    • A well-resourced, purpose-built environment
    • The opportunity to make a meaningful impact during a key transition stage
