How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Job Title: Part-Time QS / Commercial Manager (M&E)

    Job Type: Freelance

    Location: Sittingbourne, Kent (office-based)

Contract Type: Part-Time (3 days per week or flexible hours across the week)

Pay: £350 - £400 per day (Depending on experience)

    About the Company

Our client is a well-established and growing M&E contractor based in Kent, delivering mechanical and electrical packages across a range of commercial, residential, and fit-out projects.

Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of work, they are looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager to support and take ownership of the commercial function on a part-time basis.

    The Role

This is a flexible, part-time opportunity for an experienced QS or Commercial Manager to take full ownership of the commercial performance across multiple M&E projects.

The role is office-based in Sittingbourne, with flexibility around how the working pattern is structured — either 3 full days per week or hours spread across the week to suit both the business and the individual.

You will play a key role in managing project profitability, commercial risk, and financial performance across a busy portfolio of work.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Managing the commercial performance of multiple M&E projects from pre-construction through to final account

    * Preparing and managing cost plans, budgets, and financial forecasts

    * Subcontractor procurement, negotiation, and account management

    * Producing valuations and applications for payment

    * Managing variations, including pricing, submission, and agreement

    * Monitoring project costs and producing regular financial reports

    * Supporting project teams with commercial advice and risk management

    * Ensuring projects are delivered profitably and within agreed budgets

    * Final account preparation and agreement with clients and subcontractors

    Requirements

    * Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager within the M&E / Building Services sector

    * Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical packages

    * Previous experience working for an M&E contractor is essential

    * Ability to manage multiple projects independently

    * Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills

    * Familiarity with standard forms of contract (JCT / NEC)

    * Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

    What’s on Offer

    * Flexible working arrangement (3 days per week or equivalent hours spread across the week)

    * Office-based role in Sittingbourne, Kent

    * Long-term opportunity with a growing M&E contractor

    * Full ownership of the commercial function

    * Opportunity to directly impact project profitability and business growth
