How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Environmental Advisor (Contract - Inside IR35)

Site-Based, 5 Days per Week in Leiston, Suffolk

    Overview

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Advisor to join a major UK construction delivery team on one of the country's most exciting and complex infrastructure programmes. This is a site-based role, working full-time onsite, five days per week.

As an Environmental Advisor, you will work as part of a dedicated environmental and sustainability function, supporting the Construction Delivery Team. You will help ensure that all environmental requirements are effectively managed, driving high standards of environmental performance and maintaining compliance with all relevant regulatory consents and permits. Collaboration with Tier 1 partners and contractors will be essential to success in this role.

    Key Responsibilities

    - Undertake site inspections of contractor work areas, reporting environmental issues and providing clear observations.
    - Provide written and verbal guidance on environmental legislation, permits, and relevant planning constraints.
    - Review contractors' environmental management plans and risk assessments to ensure compliance with regulations and project standards.
    - Support self-assessments and internal audits of site activities, ensuring alignment with legislation, project processes, and environmental best practice.
    - Lead or support investigations into environmental incidents, preparing reports and recommending measures to prevent recurrence.
    - Identify potential contractual issues and escalate appropriately to the Environmental & Sustainability Manager.

    Operating Environment

Working within a complex framework of environmental consents, permits, and planning requirements, you will be part of a collaborative team focused on delivering high-quality, compliant construction activities. The role requires building strong relationships with internal teams and service providers to support environmental responsibilities and meet sustainability commitments.

    Framework & Boundaries

The project's environmental and sustainability performance is subject to significant internal and external scrutiny. The postholder must uphold exceptional standards and support the continuous delivery of zero-harm objectives.

    Skills, Qualifications & Experience

    - Proven experience in an environmental management role on a dynamic construction or industrial site.
    - In-depth knowledge of UK environmental legislation relevant to construction or industrial operations, plus associated guidance and industry best practice.
    - Understanding of client-contractor relationships and responsibilities under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
    - Ability to work independently, demonstrating strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.
    - Degree (or equivalent) in an environmental or related discipline.
    - Experience working within an Environmental Management System (EMS) aligned to recognised standards (e.g., ISO 14001).

The role will run to the end of December 2026 but likely to be extended and be long term
