How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Sub Agent – Major Civil Engineering Project

    Location: Plymouth - fulltime on site 

    Rate: £420–£450 per day

    Contract: Freelance / Contract - Permanent opportunities available too 

    Security Clearance: Required – applicants must be UK Nationals

    Overview

    Carmichael UK is seeking an experienced Sub Agent to support the delivery of the construction phase of a major civil engineering scheme. You will be responsible for managing a defined section of works or an assigned area of the site, working under the direction of the Agent or Project Manager to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient delivery.

    The role has a strong focus on SHEQ performance, programme, quality, and coordination of subcontractors and engineering teams.

    Key Accountabilities

    SHEQ performance for your assigned section of works

    Identification and escalation of change, risk, and opportunity to the Agent or Project Manager

    Production, review, and monitoring of RAMS and ITPs in line with company standards

    Supporting the provision of accurate as-built documentation

    Preparation and contribution to weekly progress programmes and reports

    Day-to-day site and client interface, maintaining good working relationships with client operational teams

    Responsibilities

    Construction & Section Management

    Support the safe delivery of works within your area of responsibility

    Ensure compliance with all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements

    Implement company procedures for managing subcontractors

    Ensure the engineering team understands the contract type, works information, and specification

    Assist in the preparation and maintenance of the Site Management Plan (SMP) and Environmental Control Plan (ECP)

    Ensure safe systems of work and method statements are produced, followed, and reviewed

    Ensure compliance with temporary works, including appropriate TWC and TWS arrangements

    Support management of lifting operations, ensuring appointed APs and Lift Supervisors are in place

    Support the Service Co-Ordinator where required

    Ensure excavation works are correctly supervised and recorded

    Ensure COSHH assessments are communicated and adhered to

    Supply Chain & Commercial Support

    Contribute to:

    Pre-start meetings

    Design kick-off meetings (where supplier design is involved)

    Progress and coordination meetings

    Support subcontract management processes including:

    Notices to Commence

    Programme review and acceptance

    Early Warning Notices (EWNs)

    Compensation Events (CEs)

    Contractor’s Instructions

    Contribute to 360° performance reviews and feedback processes

    About You

    Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)

    6+ years’ experience working on civil engineering projects

    Working towards Chartered status (ICE or equivalent)

    SMSTS

    First Aid at Work

    CSCS (Professional / Manager level)

    Eligible for UK security clearance (UK National)
