How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Are you an experienced Engineer with a strong electro-mechanical background, who enjoys applying your fault-finding skills to work independently on large-scale robotics and automation equipment?

    Our client is a leading life sciences technology company seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer to join their growing European team.

    As a Field Service Engineer, you will be the technical expert that customers rely on. This is a hands-on, physical role where you will work on large, complex robotic systems, often spending significant time at customer sites to ensure their equipment runs perfectly. Your typical week will involve travelling to customer locations, which are primarily situated between the Stevenage and Manchester areas. You can expect to handle up to two jobs per week, with overnight stays being common. While the role is UK-based, travel to Europe may be required.

    You must be available to undertake a comprehensive training programme, which includes two weeks at the company's head office in America, two weeks in the Manchester office and a subsequent 12-week onboarding period shadowing senior engineers.

    Key Responsibilities:

    * Perform advanced fault-finding, root cause analysis and component-level troubleshooting on laboratory automation and robotic systems.

    * Install, deploy and calibrate robotic platforms, ensuring systems meet customer specifications.

    * Respond promptly to customer support requests, managing issues from initial diagnosis to resolution.

    * Document all service activities, issues and resolutions accurately for knowledge sharing.

    * Collaborate with internal support and operations teams on system upgrades and relocations.

    * Train customers on the routine operation of their equipment.

    * Develop and maintain strong customer relationships through clear communication and proactive support.

    * Contribute to the creation of service documentation and technical articles.

    * Mentor and train junior engineers as you grow within the team.

    Requirements:

    * An HNC, equivalent qualification, or a modern apprenticeship in a mechanical or electrical engineering discipline.

    * A minimum of 2 years of direct field service or customer-facing support experience.

    * A strong electro-mechanical background with hands-on experience repairing large, complex machinery such as robotics, automation equipment, or transferable technology like CT scanners or X-ray systems.

    * Proven ability in diagnosing and resolving issues with X/Y/Z axis systems, servo motors, wiring and control circuits.

    * Knowledge of computer communications (TCP/IP, RS232).

    * Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.

    * An organised and self-managed approach to scheduling, completing tasks and documentation.

    * A full, valid driving licence.

    * The ability to travel weekly to customer sites, including regular overnight stays (approximately 60-80% of your time).

    Benefits:

    * A competitive salary and a car allowance

    * An annual bonus based on company and individual performance.

    * Company pension

    * A company credit card, with all food, accommodation and travel expenses fully reimbursed.

    * A laptop, tools and all necessary equipment to perform your role effectively.

    * The flexibility to work from home when not travelling.

    If you have a strong background in servicing complex machinery and are looking for a role with autonomy and excellent training, we would love to hear from you
