How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Media Relations & Reputation Management

    • Manage proactive and reactive relationships with national, regional and trade media.
    • Develop key messaging, press releases and briefing materials for senior leaders.
    • Act as the lead adviser on reputational risk and public confidence issues.
    • Protect and enhance UKROEd’s brand and public profile.

    Crisis Communications & Business Continuity

    • Develop and maintain crisis communications plans, protocols and readiness processes.
    • Provide expert advice during sensitive or high-profile incidents.
    • Ensure communications response aligns with wider business continuity planning.

    Digital Communications & Innovation

    • Oversee digital communications activity including website and social media channels.
    • Lead development of engaging digital content strategies and webinar programmes.
    • Work with project teams on the development of a new UKROEd website.
    • Identify modern, innovative approaches to improve reach, engagement and effectiveness.

    Internal Communications & Corporate Reporting

    • Lead internal communications activity to support employee engagement and alignment.
    • Oversee production of key corporate publications including the Annual Report and D&I Report.
    • Ensure communications are inclusive, accessible and aligned to organisational values.

    Stakeholder Engagement & Events

    • Build strong relationships with police forces, course providers and strategic partners.
    • Lead communications planning for major events including the NPCC Roads Policing Conference.
    • Represent the organisation at national and local events where required.

    Governance, Insight & Performance

    • Establish KPIs and evaluation frameworks to measure communications impact.
    • Use insight, data and audience analysis to improve delivery.
    • Prepare reports for the Board and committees covering performance, risk and budget activity.

    What UKROEd Is Looking For

The ideal candidate will bring significant senior-level communications leadership experience, with a strong track record of delivering impactful corporate communications strategies in complex environments.

    You will demonstrate:

    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong media handling and crisis communications experience.
    • Confidence advising senior leaders and Boards.
    • Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
    • Strategic thinking with strong delivery focus.
    • Experience managing suppliers, agencies and external partners.
    • Resilience, judgement and discretion in sensitive situations.

Experience within policing, transport, road safety, public sector or not-for-profit environments would be highly advantageous.
