How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Engineering & Maintenance Manager – Heavy Industry

    East Lothian £70,000 - £73,000

    We are seeking an experienced and driven Engineering & Maintenance Manager to lead all maintenance and engineering functions at a high-performing industrial manufacturing site. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, this role is critical in ensuring optimal plant performance, reliability, and continuous improvement across operations.

    The Role
    You will take full responsibility for mechanical and electrical maintenance, automation systems, site projects, and maintenance strategies. Working closely with operations, you will play a key role in maximising production capacity and delivering on strategic objectives through efficient, safe, and cost-effective engineering practices.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Lead and develop a team of maintenance fitters and electricians to achieve high levels of performance and process efficiency

    * Drive strong leadership and team management to optimise both people and equipment performance

    * Develop and manage CMMS systems (e.g. PEMAC) to enhance scheduling, stores, purchasing, and overall maintenance effectiveness

    * Deliver key KPIs including uptime, downtime, preventive maintenance schedules, and workflow efficiency

    * Implement best practices in maintenance, reliability engineering, and process optimisation using modern technologies and standards

    * Build team capability through performance management, training, coaching, and mentoring

    * Manage maintenance and engineering budgets, including energy usage and project costs, aligned to weekly KPIs

    * Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean tools and techniques to drive plant performance

    * Coordinate with external contractors and installation teams to ensure projects and maintenance activities meet required standards

    * Ensure full compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental standards across all maintenance operations

    Skills & Experience

    * Engineering qualification with a strong mechanical and electrical background, or equivalent experience

    * Minimum 10 years’ experience in maintenance or engineering management within heavy industry (sawmilling experience advantageous)

    * Strong knowledge of maintenance strategies such as RCM, TPM, and asset management systems

    * Proven experience with CMMS, preventive and condition-based maintenance, and reliability engineering

    * Demonstrated ability to drive efficiency, reduce complexity, and improve operational outcomes

    * Strong commitment to health, safety, and regulatory compliance

    * A proactive, “can-do” leadership style with a focus on continuous improvement and team development
