How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Job: Construction Buyer

    Location: Portland, Dorset (Osprey Quay)

G3 Systems is seeking a commercially aware and proactive Construction Buyer to support the successful delivery of projects across our UK operations. This role is integral to ensuring the timely, cost-effective, and compliant procurement of materials, plant, and services, while maintaining strong supplier partnerships and supporting project delivery teams.

Working within a dynamic and growing organisation, you will play a key role in managing supply chain performance, driving value, and contributing to the overall commercial success of our projects.

    What you’ll be doing

    You’ll be involved across:

    Procurement & Purchasing

    • Source and procure construction materials, plant, and services in line with project specifications
    • Obtain, assess, and compare quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
    • Manage the full procurement lifecycle, including raising and tracking purchase orders
    • Ensure compliance with internal procurement policies and procedures

    Supplier Management

    • Identify, evaluate, and develop key suppliers to ensure strategic alignment and continuity of supply
    • Build and maintain strong, professional supplier relationships
    • Source and onboard new suppliers to enhance cost efficiency, quality, and availability
    • Monitor supplier performance across cost, quality, and delivery metrics
    • Proactively resolve supply chain challenges, delays, or shortages

    Commercial & Cost Control

    • Negotiate pricing, terms, and framework agreements to deliver best value
    • Collaborate with Quantity Surveyors to align procurement activities with project budgets
    • Track material costs and report on variances
    • Support value engineering and cost reduction initiatives

    Project Support

    • Liaise closely with site teams to understand requirements and delivery timelines
    • Ensure materials are delivered in line with project programmes
    • Support resolution of procurement-related issues impacting delivery
    • Maintain accurate procurement schedules and records

    Compliance & Risk Management

    • Ensure materials meet required specifications, standards, and regulations (e.g. CE marking, UKCA)
    • Adhere to health & safety and sustainability requirements
    • Identify and mitigate risks associated with supply chain disruption
    • Maintain robust documentation for audit and traceability

    Administration & Systems

    • Maintain accurate records of orders, contracts, and supplier communications
    • Utilise procurement/ERP systems (e.g. COINS, SAP, or similar)
    • Produce procurement reports and insights for management

    Why this role is different

    • Opportunity to work within a specialist, high-impact infrastructure environment
    • Exposure to complex, multi-sector projects including defence and deployable infrastructure
    • A collaborative culture where procurement is seen as a strategic enabler, not just a function
    • Real scope to influence supplier strategy and deliver measurable commercial value

    What we’re looking for

    • Ideally working towards or holding CIPS Level 3 (Advanced Certificate) or above
    • Membership of CIOB (desirable)
    • Proven experience in a construction or project-based procurement role

    Who you are

    You’re someone who has:

    • Strong understanding of the UK construction supply chain and merchant networks
    • Familiarity with JCT and/or NEC contract environments
    • Knowledge of lead times, logistics, and site-based constraints
    • Commercially astute with strong negotiation skills
    • Proactive, organised, and able to manage multiple priorities
    • Awareness of sustainability considerations within procurement

Not sure if you meet every requirement?

We know great candidates don’t always meet every requirement. If you’re interested in the role and feel it could be a good fit, we’d encourage you to apply.

We value different perspectives and are committed to building an inclusive team.

    What you’ll get in return

    • Opportunity to work on high-profile UK & international projects
    • A collaborative, technical & project management driven team
    • Exposure to real-world challenges and delivery
    • Career development within a growing, specialist organisation

    Benefits include:

    • Competitive salary starting from £30,000 per annum, with potential to offer more for candidates with relevant experience
    • 25 days annual leave
    • Flexible 37.5-hour working week
    • Private Medical Insurance (BUPA)
    • Life cover (3.5x salary)
    • Pension scheme
    • Salary sacrifice schemes (including eBike and electric vehicles)
    • Access to wellbeing platforms

    Location & Working Pattern

Consideration will be given to hybrid working arrangements, with flexibility in working hours in line with core business requirements.
