How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Freelance Opportunity – Quantity Surveyor (Rail civil engineering projects)

    Location:

    * 2–3 days per week in Ashford, Kent

    * 2–3 days working from home

    Rate:

    * £350 per day

    * Outside IR35 / Limited Company engagement

    Overview

    We are working with a long-standing Commercial Manager client within a national civil engineering contractor who specialise in rail infrastructure projects across the UK.

    This is a great opportunity for someone looking to gain strong framework exposure within rail and NEC contract environments.

    Project Scope

    * High-volume minor capital works (typically up to £100k per project)

    * Full subcontracted delivery model (no self-delivery)

    * Potential future involvement in larger civils schemes (up to £5m) through the Eastern Routes Partnership, including:

    * Station buildings

    * Bridges

    * Civils & geotechnical works

    * Ancillary rail infrastructure

    Key Responsibilities

    * Managing and taking ownership of multiple minor works packages

    * Pricing and cost management (straightforward schemes)

    * Liaising directly with client representatives

    * Managing subcontractor accounts end-to-end

    * Working closely with Project & Delivery Managers daily

    * Handling applications, valuations, and payments

    * Supporting contract administration via CEMAR:

    * Early Warning Notices (EWNs)

    * Compensation Events

    Requirements

    * 2–3+ years’ experience within civils / infrastructure

    * Basic understanding of NEC contracts

    * Strong communication and organisation skills

    * Ability to manage multiple small-value projects simultaneously
