How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

A leading retail trading business is seeking an experienced Trading Manager to join its central team. This role is key in driving national category performance through the development and execution of commercial strategies, hands-on supplier negotiations, and close collaboration with regional teams and suppliers.

A strong emphasis is placed on negotiation capability — the successful candidate must be a proven, hands-on negotiator, with direct experience of leading supplier discussions and securing commercially beneficial terms. This is a highly commercial, fast-paced role requiring strong stakeholder management, analytical ability, and a focus on delivering measurable results. Occasional travel to regional distribution centres and supplier sites may be required.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Develop and deliver category plans to improve cost efficiency, margins, and availability

    * Lead and personally manage supplier negotiations, securing volume and time-based agreements

    * Own income forecasting and delivery against category targets

    * Work with regional teams to agree national ranges and supplier strategies

    * Create and manage promotional activity aligned with wider trading plans

    * Manage supplier performance, risk, and improvement actions

    * Negotiate cost price changes and manage stakeholder communication

    * Ensure product availability and resolve supply issues

    * Identify seasonal trading opportunities and manage clearance strategies

    * Maintain awareness of relevant legislation and product safety

    * Support junior team members and wider commercial projects

    About You

    * Experience in trading, buying, or category management within retail/FMCG

    * Strong, demonstrable negotiation experience, having personally led supplier discussions

    * Confident working with data to support decision making

    * Highly organised and able to manage multiple priorities

    * Strong communication and influencing skills

    * Proficient in Excel and Microsoft Office

    * Degree or commercial training beneficial but not essential

    What’s on Offer

    * High-impact role with real ownership and influence

    * Hybrid and flexible working environment

    * Exposure to senior stakeholders and regional teams

    * Strong development and progression opportunities
