How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Location: Brighton 
    Shift Pattern: Weekends & Midweek (Nights)
    Long Term Work

    Due to continued growth, RSS Infrastructure is seeking experienced SMTH Testers to support Points Grinding operations, working closely alongside Welders and track teams.

    Key Responsibilities

    Lead and oversee signalling testing activities during Points Grinding works in line with Network Rail standards
    Carry out SMTH testing after points grinding activities
    Work collaboratively alongside Welders and track delivery teams to ensure safe and compliant integration of signalling assets
    Perform fault‑finding, diagnostics, and problem resolution on signalling Equipment
    Ensure full compliance with safety requirements and investigate system failures
    Mentor and support members of the signalling team
    Accurately report and escalate issues arising during installations and renewals

    Essential Requirements

    Proven experience as an SMTH Tester on signalling renewals
    SMTH (a),(b),(c)/Basic Electrical Safety (BS1 & BS2)
    HW and Clamp Box competence – essential
    Full UK driving licence with flexibility to travel and work away
    Availability for mid‑week and weekend working, including nights where required
