How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Head of Design and Technology

    Location: Winchester, Hampshire
    Contract: Permanent, full-time
Start Date: September 2026 or January 2027
Salary: Competitive independent school pay scale + benefits

We are working with a leading independent girls’ school in Winchester to recruit a Head of Design and Technology.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Design & Technology teacher to lead an established department within a high-achieving senior school. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall delivery of the D&T curriculum across Key Stage 3, GCSE/IGCSE and A Level, while promoting high standards of teaching, learning, assessment and pupil achievement.

The department currently delivers Design and Technology to all students at Key Stage 3, Cambridge International IGCSE Resistant Materials at GCSE level, and AQA Product Design at A Level. Students develop practical manufacturing skills, CAD/CAM, design evaluation, problem-solving and project-based learning through both individual and collaborative work.

The Head of DT will provide professional leadership for the department, manage curriculum planning and assessment, monitor standards, oversee health and safety, support colleagues, manage resources effectively and promote the subject through open days, competitions and wider school events.

The department benefits from generous specialist facilities, technician support and a strong co-curricular culture, including involvement in design and engineering competitions such as Greenpower electric car racing.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

    - Strong Design & Technology teaching experience
    - Experience teaching Product Design, Resistant Materials and/or related DT specialisms
    - Confidence teaching across KS3, GCSE/IGCSE and A Level
    - A relevant teaching qualification, QTS or willingness to work towards this
    - Strong workshop practice and health & safety awareness
    - Experience with CAD/CAM and practical project work
    - The ability to lead, inspire and develop a successful department
    - Strong communication, organisation and curriculum planning skills

Previous Head of Department, subject leadership or second-in-department experience would be highly desirable, although applications may also be considered from experienced DT teachers ready to step into leadership.

The school offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including private medical insurance, choice of TPS or a generous DC pension scheme, school fee discount, free lunch during term time, staff wellbeing support and access to excellent on-site facilities.

    Closing date: 9am, Monday 11 May 2026.

If you are an experienced Design & Technology teacher looking for a leadership role in a highly regarded independent school, please apply with your most recent CV
