How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist

    Location: Northwest Birmingham

Salary: Band 6 (dependent on experience)

Contract: Full-time (5 days per week)

Start Date: ASAP (anticipated start September)

    About the Role

Following the relocation and expansion of a specialist SEN school in Northwest Birmingham, we are seeking a dedicated and resilient Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join a growing and forward-thinking clinical team.

This is a newly created role within an expanding service, offering the opportunity to work in a well-structured, supportive environment with strong clinical leadership. The successful candidate will work closely alongside an experienced Band 8a Speech and Language Therapist and contribute to the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based interventions tailored to pupils’ communication needs.

This position has been developed as part of a long-term strategic plan to expand Speech and Language Therapy provision across the organisation, following discussions at a clinical conference earlier this year.

    About the School

The school has undergone significant growth over the past 15 months, expanding from 45 pupils to approximately 77, with a registered capacity of 90 and further growth planned.

The provision supports children primarily with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), alongside pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The environment is structured, well-led, and focused on enabling pupils to access education through effective communication strategies.

The organisation is continuing to grow, including acquiring additional schools in the South, creating wider networking and development opportunities for therapists.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Assess, plan, and deliver speech and language therapy interventions for pupils with ASC and SEMH needs
    • Develop and implement individualised therapy programmes and communication strategies
    • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including Occupational Therapists, teaching staff, and pastoral teams
    • Provide training, modelling, and support to staff on communication strategies
    • Monitor, evaluate, and report on pupil progress
    • Contribute to EHCPs, reviews, and clinical documentation
    • Take a hands-on clinical role, supported by established systems that reduce administrative burden

    Clinical & Operational Support

    • Established electronic systems for clinical notes, EHCP tracking, and caseload management
    • Reduced administrative workload, allowing greater focus on direct clinical work
    • Strong MDT collaboration and integrated working practices
    • Opportunity to contribute to educational outcomes and classroom accessibility

    Essential Criteria

    • HCPC registered Speech and Language Therapist
    • Minimum of 1 year’s experience working within a SEN setting (school or visiting therapist experience considered)
    • Experience supporting children with ASC
    • Strong communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
    • Resilient, proactive, and flexible approach

    Desirable

    • Experience working with SEMH needs

    What We Offer

    • Newly created role within a growing, well-supported service
    • Clinical supervision and leadership from an experienced Band 8a Therapist
    • Clear CPD pathway with opportunities to progress within the organisation
    • Ongoing training and development opportunities
    • Opportunity to help shape and expand Speech and Language Therapy provision
    • Collaborative MDT environment with close working relationships across teams
    • Networking opportunities with therapists across other schools in the group
    • On-site parking and accessible location (near Junction 1, M5, with public transport links)
    • Free lunches provided on-site
    • Expansion plans including Therapy Assistant support and internal career progression
