How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    About the Role:

GB News is seeking an experienced and dynamic Assistant Editor to join The Late Show Live — our brand new nightly news and current affairs programme presented live from Washington DC. This flagship show delivers a unique perspective on UK and global news, offering fresh insight from the United States each night.

As Assistant Editor, you will play a key role in shaping the editorial content and direction of the programme. You will support the Editor in overseeing the editorial output, ensuring accuracy, editorial integrity, and a sharp, engaging tone that speaks directly to our audience.

This is an exciting opportunity to help drive a high-profile programme that covers major news stories from the UK, the US, and across the world, with energy, creativity, and a distinct voice.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Support the Senior Editor in the editorial planning and production of The Late Show Live, ensuring the programme is relevant, timely, and distinctive.
    • Lead the daily editorial meetings and guide a team of producers, researchers, and reporters to develop compelling content and segments.
    • Write and edit scripts, headlines, and in-show graphics with clarity and flair, ensuring editorial accuracy and tone.
    • React swiftly to breaking news and major developments, coordinating with UK and international teams to deliver informed coverage.
    • Collaborate with on-air talent to shape interviews, monologues, debates, and panel discussions.
    • Oversee the integration of live reports, guest interviews, and video packages into the show’s rundown.
    • Ensure adherence to GB News editorial standards, legal and compliance frameworks, and broadcasting regulations.
    • Act as the point of contact for the UK editorial team, ensuring consistent output across time zones and platforms.
    • Deputise for the Editor when required.

    Requirements:

    • Proven experience in a senior editorial role within a live news or current affairs broadcasting environment.
    • A deep understanding of UK news, politics, and culture — with a strong grasp of US and international affairs.
    • Excellent editorial judgement with a strong track record of shaping compelling content under tight deadlines.
    • Outstanding scriptwriting and sub-editing skills.
    • Confidence in handling breaking news and rapidly evolving stories.
    • Experience working with studio production teams, technical crews, and on-air talent in a live broadcast setting.
    • Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and inspire junior staff.
    • Flexibility to work late hours (live evening broadcast) and occasional weekends as required.

    Desirable:

    • Familiarity with digital news platforms and social media storytelling.
    • Experience working in or reporting on transatlantic or international news environments.
    • Knowledge of UK broadcast compliance (e.g., Ofcom guidelines).
