How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Our client is a high-profile, industry-leading organisation operating at the centre of a critical UK infrastructure sector. Representing major stakeholders across both public and private domains, they play a pivotal role in shaping national policy, influencing regulatory frameworks, and driving long-term investment strategies.

    Role

This is a senior opportunity for a Financial Economist to take a leading position in regulatory finance, working at the intersection of economic policy, corporate finance, and infrastructure investment.

You will play a key role in developing and influencing regulatory frameworks, advising on financial resilience and investment strategy, and engaging directly with regulators, government bodies, and global investors. The position offers significant visibility and the chance to impact major policy decisions across the UK.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead the development of regulatory finance policy, including cost of capital, risk and return, and financial resilience frameworks
    • Provide expert analysis and advice on corporate finance issues within a regulated environment
    • Engage with regulators, government departments, and industry stakeholders to shape regulatory outcomes
    • Act as a key point of contact for investors, credit rating agencies, and financial institutions, supporting market engagement
    • Analyse financial performance, capital structures, and investment strategies across regulated entities
    • Contribute to major regulatory reviews, consultations, and price control frameworks
    • Translate complex financial and economic analysis into clear, strategic recommendations for senior stakeholders
    • Support the broader debate on economic regulation and infrastructure finance at a national level

    Key Skills

    • Strong background in financial economics, corporate finance, or economic regulation
    • Proven experience working within regulatory finance, ideally in a regulated utility, consultancy, financial institution, or regulatory body
    • Deep understanding of cost of capital, investment frameworks, and financial risk within regulated environments
    • Ability to analyse complex financial data and translate insights into policy or strategic recommendations
    • Experience engaging with senior stakeholders, including regulators, investors, or government bodies
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and advise at senior level
    • Academic background in economics, finance, or a related analytical discipline (or equivalent experience)
    • Must have the right to work in the UK

    Key Benefits

    • Opportunity to work at the centre of high-impact regulatory and policy decisions
    • Exposure to senior stakeholders across government, finance, and industry
    • Clear scope for progression and influence within a growing, high-performing team
    • Hybrid working model
    • Competitive compensation package with performance-related incentives

If you are interested in applying your expertise in financial economics and regulatory finance to shape the future of a critical UK sector, we would be keen to hear from you.
