How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Motor Vehicle Instructor

    Kingston upon Hull

    Salary: £25,000 - £35,000 + Excellent Holidays + Pension + Training & Development

Are you a Motor Vehicle Technician or Mechanic with an IMI Level 3 or NVQ Level 3 qualification?

Do you want to move into a more structured, less pressured environment where you can pass on your skills and genuinely change young people's lives?

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing independent specialist school that supports learners who don't thrive in mainstream education. With a strong focus on practical, hands-on learning, the organisation is committed to helping students rebuild confidence, develop real-world skills, and progress into positive futures.

You'll be part of a supportive and experienced team that values relationship-led teaching, small class sizes, and a personalised approach to learning. This is an environment where your industry experience is respected, and your ability to engage and inspire learners is what really counts.

In this role, you'll deliver a mix of practical and theory-based motor vehicle sessions, helping learners develop technical skills, employability, and positive attitudes toward work. You'll break down complex tasks into simple, accessible steps and support learners with a range of additional needs to re-engage with education.

The ideal candidate will come from a motor vehicle background and hold an IMI Level 3 or NVQ Level 3 qualification, alongside either a teaching/assessing qualification or a willingness to work towards one. More importantly, you'll be patient, adaptable, and motivated by the opportunity to make a real difference to learners who need a different approach to education.

This role offers a genuine career move away from the pressures of the workshop or garage environment into something far more stable, structured, and rewarding - while still keeping you connected to your trade.

    The Role:

*Deliver practical and theory-based motor vehicle session

*Teach maintenance, repair, and core mechanical skills

*Adapt delivery to support learners with SEND, SEMH, and additional needs

*Break down technical concepts into clear, simple steps

*Support learners' confidence, behaviour, and employability skills

*Maintain a safe, organised workshop environment with strong health & safety standards

*Assess progress and provide clear, constructive feedback

*Work closely with teaching, pastoral, and support staff

    The Person:

*Background in motor vehicle maintenance/repair (Technician, Mechanic or similar)

*IMI Level 3 or NVQ Level 3 qualification (essential)

*Teaching or assessing qualification (AET, TAQA, PGCE etc.) or willingness to work towards

*Experience working with young people or strong desire to transition into education

*Strong communication skills and ability to adapt to different learners

    *Calm, patient and resilient approach

*Passion for supporting and developing young people
