How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to work with a small team contributing to project specific design / product configuration work following a welcome influx of customer contracts. This includes assembly & detail component design, generation of BOM’s and design substantiation (eg calculations etc) and working with cross-functional teams to meet customer requirements & timescales.

    Key responsibilities:

    *

    Undertakes design of assemblies, sub-assemblies and components using Solidworks 3D CAD systems.

    *

    Ensures designs are robust by using techniques such as FMEA / design review / DFM & DFS

    *

    Drive repeatability and standardisation into custom stores projects by utilising equipment and sub-systems that are already developed and proven.

    *

    Translates requirements for sub-systems into design solutions (based specifications from customer / lead engineer or line manager.

    *

    Works with the design team to identify, analyse and resolve project difficulties before they arise.

    *

    Cooperates closely with other functions in the Hardware design team including Electrical Design, Refrigeration, Systems Engineering.

    *

    Applies a ‘standard operations’ approach to the design process (eg calculation templates) and works with team lead to reinforce & further develop company practices.

    *

    Expected to keep up to date on technical advances in the discipline and related fields.

    Skills and Aptitude Profile:

    *

    You will be knowledgeable in the use of 3D CAD Modelling (Solidworks preferred), PLM system (Agile preferred) and use of this technology to improve design quality & efficiency.

    *

    You will have direct experience of documenting design and providing calculations.

    *

    Experience of design for CE technical construction files would be desirable.

    *

    Working knowledge of lean, continuous improvement tools and techniques.

    *

    Proficient in IT; Outlook, Project, Excel, Word.

    - Person Specification

    Graduate or HNC (engineering, manufacturing, or similar) with a wealth of experience in mechanical system design.

    Familiar with automation design eg motors, gearboxes, bearings, positional accuracy.

    Can detail design components, add dimensions and tolerances, tolerance stack calculations.

    Can design assemblies including generation of assembly drawings and BOM’s.

    Can work effectively as part of a team.

    Can communicate clearly with colleagues regarding design intent, assessment of various design options & problem resolution.

    Can work with Operations and Test team during build and testing phases.

    Understands manufacturing methods and designs accordingly.

    Has worked with PLM systems and understands routing & approval of design documents (drawings, CAD models, calculations etc).

    Direct experience of generating design calculations.

    Can document designs.

    Must be able to use SolidWorks 3D CAD system.

    Can use Agile PLM system preferred.

    Must be able to use MS Office tools
