How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior Civil Engineer
You're a Senior Civil Engineer who enjoys real ownership, variety, and seeing your designs built. In this role you will lead multidisciplinary projects across residential, commercial and domestic sectors, with the autonomy to shape solutions and the support of an established team. You'll join a practice approved to operate the ICE training scheme, giving you a clear route to develop further, including towards chartership if that's your goal.
You will be trusted as a Senior Civil Engineer to lead projects from concept to completion, not just deliver isolated design packages. You'll work directly with clients, local authorities and fellow professionals, making key technical and commercial decisions. You will have access to modern design tools, support for professional development, and the chance to mentor others while still growing your own expertise.

    Who you'll be joining
You will join a specialist civil and structural engineering consultancy with a strong reputation for technical quality, practical solutions and client service. The practice delivers a broad mix of work including residential developments, commercial schemes and bespoke domestic projects, and is approved to operate the ICE training scheme. You'll be part of a collaborative, friendly team where your input is valued and your professional growth is actively supported.

    What you'll be doing
As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will:
·Lead and deliver civil engineering projects from initial concept, through planning and detailed design, to construction and handover.
·Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage internal resources to meet agreed milestones, budgets and quality standards.
·Act as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring their objectives and expectations are clearly understood and delivered.
    ·Produce detailed designs for:
    oDrainage systems
    oHighways and estate roads
    oEarthworks and levels
    oFoundations and retaining structures
    oExternal works and associated infrastructure
·Use software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Causeway, Flow, Site 3D, Revit and MS Project to develop and coordinate designs.
·Carry out feasibility studies, site appraisals and engineering assessments to inform design decisions.
·Undertake highway and drainage assessments, hydraulic modelling and cut-and-fill analysis.
·Visit sites to monitor progress, review workmanship and resolve technical issues as they arise.
·Assess existing infrastructure for refurbishment or upgrade potential and propose appropriate engineering solutions.
·Liaise with clients, local authorities, contractors, architects and other consultants to ensure coordinated project delivery.
·Represent the business in planning meetings, public consultations and regulatory reviews as required.
·Support and promote compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, contributing to continuous improvement of processes.
·Prepare technical reports, design calculations, specifications, tender documentation and planning submissions.
·Prepare and submit legal agreements and applications such as S104 and S38.
·Ensure all documentation meets industry standards, regulatory requirements and best practice.
·Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure consistent, accurate outputs.
·Ensure compliance with CDM 2015, Building Regulations, environmental standards and relevant planning policies.
·Provide advice on flood risk (fluvial, pluvial and tidal) and conservation area constraints.
·Integrate SuDS and wider sustainable design principles into engineering solutions.
·Assess environmental risks and propose mitigation strategies, including measures to reduce carbon footprint.
·Provide day-to-day technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and technicians.
·Support bid preparation, fee proposals and contract negotiations, contributing to the ongoing growth of the business.

    What you'll bring
To thrive in this Senior Civil Engineer position, you will bring:
·A bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering (or equivalent).
·Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or you will be actively working towards chartership with ICE or an equivalent institution.
·Strong experience in civil engineering design and project delivery, typically in the range of 5-8 years or equivalent capability.
·Proficiency with relevant design and modelling tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, Causeway, Site 3D, Flow and MS Project.
·A solid understanding of UK construction regulations, planning processes and environmental legislation.
·Confident communication skills, with the ability to lead meetings and manage stakeholder expectations.
·Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead multidisciplinary teams.
·A commitment to quality, safety, sustainability and continuous improvement.
Candidates from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. All applications will be considered on merit against the requirements of the role.

    What's on offer
    You will receive:
·Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience and qualifications.
    ·Benefits include:
    oPension scheme
    oDiscretionary annual bonus
oProfessional development opportunities, including structured support via an ICE-approved training scheme
    oPayment of professional membership fees
The workplace culture prioritises wellbeing, health and safety, and a supportive environment where you are encouraged to take reasonable care of your own and others' wellbeing and to follow established health and safety procedures.

    Where and how you'll work
·Location: Bristol area, with the office based near Pill (BS20).
·Working pattern: Permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week), with part-time or flexible working arrangements considered.
·You will primarily work from the Bristol office, with the option for some hybrid/remote working depending on project needs and business requirements.
There is clear scope for career progression, with opportunities to take on greater project and business responsibility over time, supported by structured training and mentoring
