How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    This role leads engineering across complex defence programmes. The Director of Engineering sets technical strategy, assures quality and safety, and builds high-performing teams. Working with senior stakeholders, they drive innovation, delivery and long-term capability while governing design, compliance and continuous improvement across multi-site operations within regulated, mission-critical environments globally.

    Director Of Engineering: The client is a SME engineering organisation operating within the defence, aerospace and security sector. They design, develop and support highly complex, technology‑led systems across air, land, sea and space, working on long‑term, high‑integrity programmes that support national security and mission‑critical capability.

    Description

    Director Of Engineering:

    * Sets and owns the engineering strategy aligned to business and programme goals
    * Leads large, multi-disciplinary engineering teams across complex programmes
    * Provides governance for engineering quality, safety and technical assurance
    * Oversees design, development and lifecycle support of mission-critical systems
    * Works closely with executive stakeholders, customers and regulators
    * Drives innovation, continuous improvement and engineering best practice
    * Manages engineering risk, capability planning and succession development
    * Ensures compliance with regulatory, contractual and internal standards

    Profile

    Director Of Engineering:

    * Senior engineering leader with experience in regulated, safety-critical sectors
    * Strong background in systems, hardware or complex product engineering
    * Proven track record of leading large engineering organisations
    * Commercially aware with experience supporting major programmes
    * Credible at executive level with internal and external stakeholders
    * Demonstrates strong governance, assurance and risk management capability
    * Experience operating in matrix environments
    * Degree qualified in Engineering or a related discipline

    Job Offer

    Salary of circa £100,000 to £115,000 plus excellent package
