Job Title: Sewing Machinist (Upholstery)
Location: Long Eaton NG10
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: £13.50
Shift: 6:30-16:30 Mon-Thurs overtime Friday 6:00-11:00 (paid at standard rate)
Role Overview
We are looking for a skilled Sewing Machinist with experience in upholstery work, including furniture, seat covers, and cushions. The ideal candidate will be confident working with a variety of materials and capable of producing neat, consistent, and high-quality finishes.
Key Responsibilities
* Operate industrial sewing machines to produce upholstery items
* Sew and assemble fabric, leather, and other materials for furniture and seating
* Interpret job sheets, patterns, and technical drawings
* Cut and prepare materials when required
* Ensure high standards of quality and accuracy in all work
* Carry out basic machine maintenance and report any faults
* Work collaboratively with upholsterers and production staff
Requirements
* Proven experience as a sewing machinist, ideally within upholstery
* Strong ability to sew straight, consistent seams on heavy materials
* Experience working with fabrics, leather, vinyl, and foam-backed materials
* Good attention to detail and craftsmanship
* Ability to work independently and meet production deadlines
* Familiarity with industrial sewing machines
Desirable Skills
* Pattern cutting experience
* Knowledge of furniture construction or upholstery processes
* Experience in bespoke or made-to-order production
