How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Senior Engineer – Civil Engineering (Infrastructure) – Perm Opportunity

    Location: UK (Regional Projects)
    Job Type: Contract / Agency
Hours: Full-time (45 hours per week)
Duration: Long-term, secured work across major frameworks

    The Opportunity
We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Engineer to join a leading civil engineering contractor delivering a wide range of infrastructure schemes across the UK. This is a long-term agency opportunity with secured work across major frameworks, covering highways, water, and reinforced concrete projects. The role offers involvement in complex, high-value schemes and the chance to work within a business that actively supports career development and internal progression.

    The Role
The Senior Engineer will provide site engineering leadership across multiple projects within the region. The role includes supervising site engineers and trainees, ensuring accurate setting out, maintaining survey control, and supporting the wider site team in delivering projects safely, efficiently, and to specification. You will be involved from early project stages through to completion, contributing to planning, procurement, design coordination, and delivery.

    Key Responsibilities
You will establish and maintain survey control for contracts and ensure that detailed setting out is completed in line with contract drawings and regularly checked for accuracy. You will oversee site engineers and support them in daily setting out activities, attending critical stages of the works where required. You will ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards, maintaining accurate records in line with organisational and legal requirements. You will support Site and Sub Agents in developing efficient construction methods and may deputise for them when required.

You will take a leading role in quality management, including carrying out instrumental checks, completing quality audits, and producing Inspection and Test Plans along with Quality Management Plans. You will brief site teams on these processes and ensure that corrective actions are implemented where necessary.

You will manage engineering resources, ensuring availability and suitability, while mentoring and developing junior engineers. You will contribute to recruitment activities and maintain accurate records relating to workforce and site activities. The role also includes preparing method statements, delivering toolbox talks, and maintaining strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.

You will support procurement activities through material take-offs and scheduling, assist in subcontractor scope development, and contribute to project planning and programme management. You will also support commercial performance by maintaining records, identifying risks and opportunities, and assisting in the management of variations.

You will engage regularly with clients and stakeholders, attending meetings and ensuring that project delivery meets or exceeds expectations.

    Project Overview
Initial works involve complex remediation packages within the water sector, including bridge and trunk sewer repairs across both rail and road interfaces. These projects are currently in the design phase, providing an opportunity to be involved from an early stage and contribute to innovative delivery solutions and temporary works planning.

    Requirements
Candidates should have strong experience in setting out on civil engineering projects, particularly within infrastructure, highways, or reinforced concrete works. A degree or HNC in Civil Engineering or equivalent is required, along with a valid CSCS card. You should have a solid understanding of NEC contracts, CDM regulations, and project risk management. Experience using AutoCAD is expected, along with the ability to manage projects independently and maintain accurate reporting and records. Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills are essential.

Additional certifications such as SMSTS or IOSH Managing Safely, Temporary Works Coordinator, Confined Space Training, or Lift Supervisor qualifications would be advantageous, along with a proven track record of delivering similar large-scale infrastructure projects.

    What’s on Offer
This role offers a competitive day rate depending on experience, long-term secured work, and the opportunity to contribute to major UK infrastructure projects. You will be part of a supportive working environment with clear opportunities for professional development and career progression.
