How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Service & Commissioning Engineer
    Location: Chester

    Are you confident fault-finding on complex instrumentation?
    Do you enjoy a mix of lab-based work and site commissioning?

    What will you be doing?
    ·Provide technical support to clients and service engineers via phone and email
    ·Calibrate, repair and service systems, mainly GC instrumentation
    ·Prepare test equipment and support FATs with clients present
    ·Assist with pre-commissioning and commissioning activities on-site and in-house
    ·Deliver remote support for reactive maintenance
    ·Strip down and overhaul gas analysers, regulators and control valves
    ·Carry out PLC/flow computer programming, configuration and fault finding
    ·Compile reports and documentation for all customer activities
    ·Support technically complex customer orders and internal teams
    ·Join a 24/7 helpline rota once trained

    Where you'll be doing it
    You'll be working for a specialist engineering business supporting customers across the gas and instrumentation sector. The role combines laboratory work with occasional site visits, offering a varied and hands-on environment.

    What you'll need
    ·Minimum 2 years' experience in a technical role within the gas industry
    ·Experience or knowledge of PLCs
    ·Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
    ·Good communication skills, both written and verbal
    ·Ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines
    ·HNC/HND in Electrical, Electronic or Mechanical Engineering (or similar experience)
    ·GCSEs including Maths, English and Science
    ·Comfortable using Microsoft Office

    Desirable:
    ·Experience with odourisation systems or chromatography
    ·18th Edition / Inspection & Test / Compex
    ·Project or order management experience
