How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

TeacherActive is an inclusive term-time tuition and mentoring service, providing an alternative education provision supporting children who are temporarily out of mainstream education.

We are seeking a dedicated, patient, and compassionate Maths & English Tutor to provide tailored one-to-one support for a student with ADHD. This role is available for an immediate start and will run until the end of the academic year.

You will deliver structured and engaging Maths and English sessions designed to support academic progress, improve confidence, and help the student re-engage positively with learning. The successful tutor will be able to adapt their approach to suit the student’s needs, using clear routines, engaging activities, and ADHD-friendly strategies to maintain focus, motivation, and consistency.

Sessions may take place in community, home, or educational settings, depending on the learner’s needs.

    Key Responsibilities

Deliver tailored Maths and English tuition, supporting the student’s current level and academic goals
Plan and deliver engaging, learner-centred sessions that are structured, purposeful, and accessible
Use strategies to support a learner with ADHD, including clear instructions, regular breaks, visual prompts, positive reinforcement, and varied activities
Build a positive and trusting relationship to help improve confidence, motivation, and engagement
Adapt learning materials and teaching style to suit the student’s attention span, interests, and individual needs
Provide consistency and routine by following agreed timetables and session plans
Support the learner’s personal development, including confidence, independence, resilience, and self-esteem
Monitor progress and provide feedback where required
Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
Follow safeguarding procedures and promote the welfare of the learner at all times
What You Bring / Essential Requirements

Experience teaching or tutoring Maths and English, ideally across KS1–KS3
Experience supporting children or young people with ADHD and/or additional needs
A strong commitment to helping learners re-engage with education and achieve positive outcomes
A patient, empathetic, and flexible approach to teaching and mentoring
The ability to create structured, engaging, and motivating sessions tailored to individual learning needs
Reliability and professionalism, with the ability to deliver sessions consistently until the end of the academic year
A sound understanding of safeguarding responsibilities
A current Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
Flexibility to travel to assigned locations as required
    Desirable

Experience working in schools, alternative provision, youth work, SEN support, or private tutoring settings
Confidence supporting learners who may require additional emotional, behavioural, or attention-based support
Knowledge of ADHD-friendly teaching strategies and approaches
Our staff are paid on a PAYE basis, so you can rest assured that you’re paying the right level of TAX and National Insurance and there’s no messing around with admin charges coming out of your hard-earned cash.
