How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Job Title: Product Development Engineer

    Location: Lichfield

    Salary: £30 - £40k prorata

Hours: Full time - 6/9 month contract likely to turn into permanent

Sector: Plumbing, Pumps, Water Systems, Packaged Plant

    Overview

We are looking for a Product Development Project Engineer to help drive the development, standardisation and certification of our packaged water system product range.

This is a hands-on role for someone who can combine engineering understanding with project coordination. You will work closely with the senior technical team to learn the existing product portfolio, support bespoke project requirements where needed, and take ownership of key product development projects across the business.

A major part of the role will be helping us expand and formalise our range of booster sets, pressure sets and tank systems, including managing approvals such as WRAS and KIWA, and helping bring greater consistency across multiple trading brands.

This is a good opportunity for someone earlier in their career with the right technical grounding and attitude, or for a more experienced engineer who wants a product-focused role in a practical manufacturing and engineering environment.

    The Role

You will support the development and improvement of products used within the plumbing, pumps and water industry, with a particular focus on packaged systems and standardised ranges.

    Key responsibilities will include:

    • Project managing product development activity from concept through to launch

    • Working with the technical team to understand the current product range, including standard and bespoke systems

    • Supporting the development of standardised booster set and tank ranges across multiple brands

    • Coordinating certification and approvals work, particularly WRAS and KIWA

    • Helping rationalise and streamline overlapping product ranges to create a clearer market offering

    • Producing and updating technical drawings and product documentation using CAD and SolidWorks

    • Supporting design changes, prototype development and product testing

    • Assisting with technical calculations and product performance assessments, including fluid flow and system behaviour

    • Liaising with suppliers, internal stakeholders and certification bodies

    • Supporting bespoke customer or project-specific development work where required

    • Helping ensure products are practical to manufacture, install, commission and maintain

    Candidate Profile

We are looking for someone with a good engineering base, strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple technical workstreams without losing detail.

    You are likely to have:

    • Experience in product development, project engineering or design engineering

    • CAD experience, ideally SolidWorks

    • A sound grasp of fluid dynamics, hydraulic principles or water system design

    • Experience working in pumps, plumbing, water treatment, packaged plant, M&E, HVAC or a closely related sector

    • The ability to coordinate technical projects and keep them moving

    • Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with technical, commercial and operational teams

    • A practical, common-sense approach to engineering

    • Good attention to detail, especially around drawings, specifications and compliance work

    Desirable experience

    • Experience with booster sets, pressure systems, pump packages, tanks or pressurisation equipment

    • Exposure to WRAS, KIWA or similar product approvals

    • Experience supporting both standard product ranges and bespoke engineered solutions

    • Familiarity with manufacturing, assembly or workshop environments

    What success looks like

In this role, success will mean:

    • Expanding and improving an approved, market-ready product range

    • Creating a more consistent and commercially coherent offer across the group

    • Reducing duplication and overlap in branded product lines

    • Improving the speed and discipline of product development projects

    • Supporting a stronger long-term technical platform for growth

    Why join us

This is not a narrow drawing-office role. It is a genuine product development and project role with visibility across engineering, operations and commercial teams. You will have the chance to help shape a practical product range in a specialist part of the water and pump market, while learning directly from experienced people in the business.
