We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Support Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in East London. This position is well suited to an individual with a background in mental health support who is committed to enabling young people with social, emotional and mental health needs to achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
Provide targeted 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
Support students in developing emotional regulation strategies and positive behavioural approaches
Establish and maintain professional, trusting relationships that promote a safe and supportive learning environment
Work collaboratively with teaching and pastoral staff to implement individualised support plans
Respond to challenging situations with a calm, consistent and trauma-informed approach
Encourage the development of independence, confidence and positive social skills
Contribute to the creation of an inclusive and nurturing educational environment
Monitor pupil progress and assist in the development and review of wellbeing and behaviour support plans
Person Specification
Demonstrable experience in a mental health support role is essential
Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or additional needs is highly desirable
Sound understanding of trauma-informed practice and emotional wellbeing strategies
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
A patient, resilient and empathetic approach
Ability to remain composed and effective when managing challenging situations
Relevant qualifications in mental health, psychology, education or a related field are advantageous
