How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

We have a proven track record delivering the highest-quality hydrographic and geophysical survey data. Spectrum Geosurvey are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our growing team based in our Lymington office.


    Graduate Geophysicist

    Position Overview


    As a Graduate Geophysicist, you will be predominantly responsible for acquiring geophysical data in the field as well as assisting data processing and interpretation when in the office. It is a great opportunity to build key industry-related skills, gain exposure to a variety of projects in the offshore renewable energy sector.


    Successful applicants shall have a background in geology and/or geophysics and should have a working knowledge of marine surveying. Experience working with GIS and spatial data, or experience of handling big data would be an advantage. Supported by an experienced and committed team, successful candidates will be developing skill sets to carry out the following tasks within our growing company.


    Role Responsibilities


    • Undertake fieldwork for extended periods of time away from home on projects onshore and offshore
    • Assist with data processing of a variety of geophysical datasets, including side scan sonar, magnetometer and sub-bottom profiler data. Multibeam echosounder and backscatter processing may be required from time to time.
    • Assist with data archive and data repository management, ensuring safe storage of a large variety of data formats.
    • Assist with mobilisations and equipment verifications under guidance
    • Assist with notifying software manufacturers of any bugs and assist with implementing solutions
    • Become familiar with understanding the importance of implementing best practices for handling, maintaining and storing survey equipment as per manufacturer's instructions or company guidance
    • Chart and chartlet creation in QGIS or ArcGIS for relevant project documentation
    • Data quality control and data assurance ensuring that it complies with the project scope of work
    • Follow and contribute to established data processing procedures and guidelines
    • Identification, investigation and troubleshooting inconsistencies in data, ensuring that it complies with the project scope of work
    • Report preparation based on geophysical survey data and interpretation
    • Seabed contact identification and characterisation
    • Under guidance, conduct data acquisition and processing, maintain accurate records and assist in maintaining quality and consistency of field data, data processing, deliverable creation, and data management.
    • Understanding and working to company QHSE standard.


    Required education/experience & attributes:


    • Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject such as Geology, Geophysics or other related marine or earth science.
    • Ability to take initiative, to problem solve and troubleshoot data where required
    • Understanding of data management and required coordination skills to handle large volumes of data
    • Good interpersonal and written communication skills
    • Good written and oral communication skills with the ability to convey complex information in a training environment
    • High level of computer literacy
    • Highly competent in the use of all Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel
    • Strong academic report writing skills
    • Able to work in the UK


    Desired but not essential education/experience & attributes:


    • Work experience with GIS and spatial data (QGIS & ArcGIS)
    • Experience with a scripting language (e.g. Python)
    • Full valid UK driving license


    Graduate Hydrographic Surveyor

    Position Overview


    The successful candidate will be required to perform a variety of roles within the company and be prepared to travel and work away from home when required. Supported by an experienced and committed team of senior surveyors, the graduate surveyor will develop their skill set to carry out the following tasks within our growing company:

    • Vessel mobilisations, including survey equipment installation, interfacing, calibration and verification
    • Plan and undertake hydrographic surveys
    • Calibrate and maintain survey equipment
    • Develop and document survey procedures, both existing and innovative
    • Process and chart large area bathymetric datasets
    • Compile concise and accurate survey reports for a variety of clients
    • Assist project managers in the running of survey projects, both large and small
    • Research new technologies and arrange system/software trials to keep Spectrum on the cutting edge


    Role Responsibilities


    • Under guidance, conduct Bathymetric processing and assist in maintaining quality and consistency of data processing and deliverable creation
    • Assist Processing and reporting managers with reporting, charting & data management
    • Assist with data archive and data repository management, ensuring safe storage of a large variety of data formats.
    • Assist with notifying software manufacturers of any bugs and assist with implementing solutions
    • Become familiar with understanding the importance of implementing best practices for handling, maintaining and storing survey equipment as per manufacturer's instructions or company guidance
    • Chart and chartlet creation in QGIS or ArcGIS for relevant project documentation
    • Data quality control and data assurance ensuring that it complies with the project scope of work
    • Follow and contribute to established data processing procedures and guidelines
    • Identification, investigation and troubleshooting inconsistencies in data, ensuring that it complies with the project scope of work
    • Report preparation based on Geophysical survey data and interpretation
    • Seabed contact identification and characterisation
    • Providing a positive feedback loop to the infield survey team to improve data acquisition quality and practices
    • Understanding and working to company QHSE standards


    Required education/experience & attributes:


    • Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject such as Hydrography, Marine Geography, Marine Sciences or a related field
    • Working knowledge of hydrographic multibeam systems, motion reference units, side scan sonar and magnetometer systems
    • Highly competent in the use of all Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel
    • Strong marine background
    • High attention to detail and documentation while under pressure
    • Ability to take initiative and work unsupervised


    Desired but not essential education/experience & attributes:


    • Work experience working with GIS and spatial data
    • Prior industry experience working within a hydrographic surveying role or related industry
    • Project management experience
    • Previous work experience of using hydrographic software, such as QINSy, Teledyne PDS or Caris HIPS & SIPS
    • Knowledge of Hydrographic survey planning and reporting
    • Experience with creating charts (QGIS & ArcGIS)
    • Experience with a scripting language (Python)
    • Full valid UK driving license
