How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Civil Design Engineer
    Sheffield

An established and well-regarded multidisciplinary Consultancy is looking to add a Civil Design Engineer to its growing Sheffield team. With a strong reputation for delivering practical, high-quality engineering solutions, the business works across a wide range of sectors and is known for its collaborative approach, technical strength and commitment to sustainable design. The team continues to grow on the back of a healthy project pipeline, making this a great opportunity for an engineer looking to develop within a supportive and forward-thinking environment.

This role will see you take on a key position within the infrastructure team, contributing to the design and delivery of highways, drainage, earthworks and public realm schemes. You'll work closely with colleagues across civil, structural and environmental disciplines, as well as liaising with clients, local authorities and external stakeholders. The position offers exposure across the full project lifecycle, from early concept and planning through to detailed design and construction support, including involvement in Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies.

From a technical perspective, you will be responsible for preparing and checking detailed designs, producing drawings, specifications and reports, and ensuring all work is delivered to a high standard in line with current regulations and best practice. You will gain hands-on experience across a varied portfolio, supporting planning submissions and attending site visits, giving you a well-rounded role with real responsibility and progression potential.

You will hold a degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline and will ideally be working towards Chartered status with the ICE or similar professional body. A solid understanding of drainage and highway design is required, along with experience using software such as Civil 3D, MicroDrainage, Causeway Flow, PDS and AutoCAD. Familiarity with Section 278, 38 and 104 agreements and the wider planning and adoption process would be beneficial.

In return, you will be joining a Consultancy that genuinely invests in its people, offering structured support towards Chartership, a collaborative team environment and the chance to work on a broad range of interesting and technically challenging projects across the UK.

For more information about this role, please contact Sam at Calibre or click apply.

Calibre Search promote equality in the workplace and we welcome applications from all suitably skilled or qualified candidates regardless of their sex, race, disability, religion/beliefs, sexual orientation or age. We act as both an employment agency and employment business
