How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Fortress Recruit is working with a specialist defence engineering business to recruit an In-Service Support Engineer based on their site in Poole.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a technical engineering background who enjoys problem-solving, customer interaction and coordinating support activity. The role is largely desk-based, acting as the first point of contact for customer technical enquiries, repairs, upgrades and defect reports across naval and maritime systems used globally.

    Key responsibilities include:

    * Act as the first point of contact for technical issues, defect reports and support enquiries

    * Carry out initial fault triage and technical investigations before escalating to engineering teams where required

    * Coordinate UK and overseas field engineer visits for repairs, upgrades, surveys and emergency support

    * Ensure engineers have correct travel documents, equipment and technical information before deployment

    * Liaise with customers, engineers, suppliers and internal teams to ensure support activities are delivered on time

    * Support FAT, STW, HAT and SAT activities

    * Assist with technical documentation, service manuals, MoD paperwork and reporting

    * Maintain support trackers, customer feedback logs and product update records

    * Support obsolescence management and release technical notifications to customers

    * Work closely with aftermarket and repair teams to ensure quotations, repairs and upgrades meet customer deadlines

To be successful in this role, you will have:

    * Previous engineering support, field service or technical coordination experience

    * Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills

    * Electrical, electronic or mechanical engineering knowledge

    * Ability to interpret technical drawings and documentation

    * Strong communication and customer-facing skills

    * Defence, marine, aerospace or regulated industry experience desirable

    * HNC/HND or equivalent in Engineering

    * Eligibility for SC clearance (5 years' UK residency with no visa or sponsorship requirement)

This is a great opportunity to join a growing defence engineering business supporting critical maritime systems used globally.

This a full time, permanent role is based in Poole, offering a competitive salary with learning and development opportunity, as well as some flexibility for remote working when required.
