How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Head of Business Development

    📍 London / Hybrid

    💼 Permanent

    💰 £55,000 per annum (plus travel expenses)


    About the role

    We’re working with the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) to recruit a commercially driven Head of Business Development.


    This is a pivotal leadership role within a global professional membership organisation, responsible for driving revenue growth and shaping the commercial strategy across membership, partnerships, and a diverse product portfolio. You’ll sit as part of the senior team, leading a business development function and playing a key role in strengthening market position and expanding international reach.


    Key responsibilities

    • Define and deliver a global business development and revenue growth strategy
    • Own and achieve revenue targets across multiple income streams (membership, partnerships, events, products)
    • Build and manage a strong pipeline, driving new business and long-term growth
    • Lead key accounts and develop high-value strategic partnerships
    • Identify and launch new commercial products and opportunities
    • Work closely with marketing to generate demand and support conversion
    • Use CRM systems and data insights to track performance and optimise activity
    • Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing team
    • Represent the organisation at industry events and global forums


    About you

    • Proven track record of delivering revenue growth in a membership, professional body, or B2B environment
    • Strong experience across business development, partnerships, and commercial strategy
    • Experience leading teams and operating at a senior level
    • Commercially astute, with strong pipeline and forecasting capability
    • Data-driven, with experience using CRM systems to inform decision-making
    • Experience working in international markets is desirable
