How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    About this Role:

    Experienced Design Manager required to join this busy Tier 1 main contractor to work with the Senior Design Manager on a complex £150m + new entrance works and MSCP project for one of London's key aviation transport hubs.

    As Design Manager for the project, you will be involved in the preconstruction phase for this prior to commencement on site early next year and throughout the construction phase of circa 2 years.

    The scheme will involve an extensive re-working of the entrance involving roads, ramps, bridges, structures, and service diversions as well as building above existing underground transport links. The location will remain live and fully operational throughout.

    Reporting to the Senior Design Manager and Project Director for the scheme you will manage some of the detailed design development and buildability aspects of the scheme through second stage preconstruction and out to commencement on site; You will be based on the project throughout as part of a small focussed team.

    Duties will include:

    Management of the design development for the project, packages and sections of works;
    Chairing regular design team meetings;
    Management of consultant design team;
    Regular liaison with key clients, trusts and end users / heads of department;
    Engagement with and managing specialist sub-contractor design teams;
    Agreement of information required schedule; Ensuring key dates achieved;
    Dealing with local authorities to achieve planning permissions;
    Review of construction design information for buildability, compliance with contractors proposals, employers requirements, budget, current building legislation, etc;
    Identifying opportunities for value engineering where appropriate;
    Proactive issue resolution;
    Overall managing the smooth and timely delivery of detailed design information for procurement and construction throughout the preconstruction and build process.
    Management of your site based team of Design Managers, Coordinators, Information Manager, etc.

    About the Company/Client/Project:

    The company is a Tier 1 national main contractor, with experience and a proven track record in the delivery of new build and refurbishment schemes in aviation, healthcare, commercial offices, higher education faculty buildings, student accommodation, etc in the South East region.

    Requirements including certificates and qualifications:

    Either from an Engineering/Construction delivery or Architectural background, you will possess excellent technical and commercial knowledge, a keen understanding of construction methodology, materials and systems, procurement lead in times, etc.

    For this particular role, previous experience of a project with large civil engineering aspects as well as building would be highly desirable.

    You will have excellent communication and negotiations skills, strong planning and problem-solving ability, initiative and a positive approach. In terms of character, you will be a motivated, positive and detail focussed individual able to work well within a large team dynamic.

    You will ideally have a proven track record of successful project delivery with a recognised Main Contractor in a Design Management role
