How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Governance and Assurance Lead

    2 Days in Office, 3 Remote.

    At Medical Protection Society, our purpose is to support and protect medical professionals when they need us the most. Our Business Services & Governance team plays a vital role in ensuring our member-facing services are efficient, compliant and continuously improving, enabling high‑quality, member‑focused services across the globe.

    The Opportunity

    We’re looking for an experienced Governance & Assurance Lead to provide independent oversight, insight and assurance across our Operations function. If you’re motivated by improving standards, strengthening controls and ensuring organisations operate confidently within risk appetite, this role offers the opportunity to make a real, visible impact.

    You will play a critical role in ensuring our operational activities are well‑governed, compliant and consistently delivered to the highest standards. Acting as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, you’ll bring clarity, challenge and confidence through robust assurance frameworks, strong risk and control management, and high‑quality governance.

    As Governance and Assurance Lead, you’ll:

    * Lead the governance and assurance function for Operations, providing independent oversight, constructive challenge and expert advice to senior leaders.

    * Establish and maintain clear assurance frameworks aligned to organisational, regulatory and best‑practice requirements.

    * Coordinate operational risk and control management, including oversight of audits, remediation plans and regulatory readiness.

    * Provide confidence in data quality, data governance, reporting and management information used for decision‑making.

    * Support value for money by ensuring strong controls across operational and third‑party activities.

    * Embed learning from complaints, incidents, audits and assurance activity to drive continuous improvement and better member outcomes.

    * Lead, develop and engage a high‑performing team, fostering a culture of accountability, quality and inclusion.

    What we’re looking for

    We’re looking for a confident, credible leader with strong governance and risk expertise, who can provide clear assurance, insightful challenge and build trust with senior stakeholders while driving high standards across operations.

    You’ll bring:

    * Strong knowledge of operational governance, risk management, data controls and regulatory requirements.

    * Experience leading assurance, risk or governance teams within complex operational environments.

    * A proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and provide clear, credible challenge.

    * Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify root cause and simplify complexity.

    * Sound commercial and financial judgement, with a focus on value for money and effective controls.

    * Exceptional organisation and communication skills, able to balance competing priorities and deliver at pace.

    It would be great (but not essential) if you also have:

    * A recognised risk management qualification (e.g. IRM).

    * Insight into current and emerging governance and risk models in the UK or internationally.

    Why join MPS?

    * Meaningful, impactful roles with real influence

    * A collaborative, inclusive and supportive culture

    * A truly flexible hybrid-working arrangement

    * Strong focus on learning, leadership development and career progression

    We also offer you:

    * A discretionary on-target bonus of 15%. Up to a max30% based on performance

    * 11% pension contribution (3% from you, 8% from us – optional additional matched 3% contributions, e.g. 6% from you, 11% from us)

    * 30days annual leave. Flexible public holidays and option to buy/sell additional leave

    * Car Allowance

    * Private Medical Insurance

    * 6x salary death in service

    * Holistic health and wellbeing support package

    Ready to Make a Difference?

    Medical Protection Society (MPS) is the world’s leading protection organisation for Doctors, Dentists and healthcare professionals. We protect and support the professional interests of almost 300,000 Members around the world.

    We are a not-for-profit organisation, meaning our Members’ premiums are kept safe should our Members require support for complaints or claims arising from professional practice, or invested into bettering the organisation, our colleagues and our products.

    Our philosophy is to support safe practice in medicine and dentistry by helping to avert problems in the first place. We also actively campaign for regulatory and legal reforms that benefit Members and the wider healthcare professions.

    To do this, we need colleagues who are trusted and supported to deliver their best work, whether that be through leadership development, fully-funded training courses or peer-to-peer support. We want our colleagues to feel empowered enough to deliver positive change, display ambition to push themselves and are determined when faced with a challenge, whilst ensuring our Member’s best interests are at the core.
