About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Transport Manager to join a leading road haulage and logistics firm in the Portsmouth area. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organised professional with strong leadership skills and a passion for driving efficient transport operations in a fast-paced environment.
The company operates a large HGV fleet of approximately 100 vehicles, where the successful candidate will hold full responsibility for the Operator Licence (O Licence) and overall transport compliance.
Key Responsibilities
• Oversee the daily transport operations, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of goods
• Manage HGV fleet operations, including vehicle maintenance schedules and driver performance
• Ensure full compliance with DVSA regulations, transport legislation, and safety standards
• Plan and optimise transport routes and fleet utilisation to improve efficiency and reduce costs
• Monitor budgets, fuel usage, and operational spend
• Lead, train, and support drivers and transport staff
• Maintain accurate transport records, compliance documentation, and reporting
• Handle operational issues, delays, and customer concerns in a professional manner
Key Requirements
• Previous experience in a Transport Manager / Logistics Manager / Fleet Manager role
• Strong knowledge of transport legislation, compliance, and Operator Licence obligations
• Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
• Effective leadership and communication abilities
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple operational priorities
• Proficiency in Transport Management Systems (TMS) and general IT systems
• Transport Manager CPC Certification (Essential)
