How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Due to continued growth and an increasing workload, we are looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join the pre-construction and commercial team in Durham.

    This is a key position within the business, playing a vital role in securing future work and ensuring the ongoing success of project delivery.

    The Role

    In this role, you will be responsible for producing accurate and competitive mechanical estimates for a variety of building services projects.

    You will take ownership of the tender process from initial enquiry through to submission, working closely with internal teams and the wider supply chain to develop well-informed, commercially sound bids.

    Responsibilities

    * Prepare and submit detailed mechanical tenders across multiple project types

    * Analyse tender documents, drawings, and specifications

    * Undertake take-offs and build-ups for labour, materials, and plant requirements

    * Source and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors

    * Assess project risks and identify potential value engineering opportunities

    * Contribute to tender review meetings and commercial discussions

    * Assist with handover of successful bids to delivery teams

    * Maintain awareness of market pricing and industry trends

    * Build and maintain strong relationships with supply chain partners

    * Ensure all submissions are accurate, competitive, and compliant

    About You

    * Previous experience in a Mechanical Estimating role within building services or M&E contracting

    * Strong technical understanding of mechanical systems in commercial environments

    * Confident interpreting drawings and tender documentation

    * Good commercial judgement and analytical ability

    * Familiarity with estimating tools and software packages

    * Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines

    * Clear and confident communicator

    * Relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering or similar (desirable but not essential)

    What’s on Offer

    * Competitive salary, reflective of experience and capability

    * Annual leave entitlement plus bank holidays, with increasing holiday allowance with service

    * Company pension scheme

    * Opportunity to work on a varied and secure pipeline of regional projects

    * Ongoing professional development and training support

    * Collaborative working culture with experienced commercial and operational teams

    * Long-term career stability within a well-established contractor
