How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Design Manager / Senior Design Engineer – HV Grid Connections

    Salary: £55,000 – £70,000 + package
    Location: Bristol (hybrid working)

    The Opportunity

    An opportunity has arisen to join a fast-growing engineering contractor delivering high voltage grid connection and renewable energy projects across the UK.

    This is a business that has established itself quickly within the market, growing from circa £8m turnover in its first year to over £15m currently, with a clear plan to reach £28m in the next financial year. A significant proportion of that revenue is already secured, providing strong stability alongside continued growth.

    They specialise in delivering 132kV grid connections for solar and battery energy storage developments, operating on a full turnkey basis from design through to commissioning. With expansion underway into transmission-level private connections and international markets, the business is entering a key phase of development.

    This role will suit a Design Manager or Senior Design Engineer looking to move into a broader, more influential role within a growing organisation.

    The Culture

    The business operates with a genuinely close-knit team dynamic, built around individuals who have worked together previously and continue to do so in a collaborative and supportive way.

    It is not a corporate environment. The structure is relatively flat, communication is direct, and individuals are trusted to take responsibility for their work.

    There is a strong emphasis on creating a workplace where people enjoy coming to work, supported by regular team events and a relaxed but professional atmosphere. As the business grows, maintaining this culture remains a key priority.

    The Role

    This is not a traditional design role focused purely on production.

    The position centres on managing and coordinating the full design lifecycle across projects, ensuring alignment between civil, electrical and earthing disciplines.

    Key responsibilities include:

    * Managing design from initial data capture through to as-built

    * Coordinating external design consultants and subcontractors

    * Ensuring integration across all design disciplines

    * Reviewing and validating design outputs

    * Supporting overall project delivery alongside operations teams

    About You

    You will have experience within substation or grid connection projects and a strong understanding of how design integrates into overall delivery.

    Key experience:

    * Substation or high voltage project experience

    * Design coordination or design management exposure

    * Understanding of full project lifecycle

    * Ability to work across multiple disciplines

    A civil engineering bias would be highly advantageous, although candidates with broader coordination experience will also be considered.

    Working Arrangements

    * Bristol-based, 3 days per week in the office

    * Hybrid flexibility outside of this

    * Limited site travel as required

    Package

    * £55,000 – £70,000 salary

    * 30 days holiday plus bank holidays

    * Private healthcare (AXA) after probation

    * 5% pension contribution

    * Death in service (4x salary)

    This role does not include a car allowance.

    Additional benefits include company events, team activities and a strong emphasis on a positive working environment.

    Why This Role

    This is an opportunity to:

    * Join a growing business at a key stage of development

    * Play a central role in shaping the design function

    * Work within a close-knit, collaborative team

    * Move into a broader role with greater influence and responsibility

    Process

    Two-stage interview process with flexibility on format and quick decision-making
