Role Overview
This is a hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer role within a growing engineering company operating in the recycling and automation space. You’ll play a key role in developing bespoke industrial machinery deployed across Europe and the US, with a focus on transitioning products into more standardised, scalable solutions.
This is a high-ownership position centred around a core product platform, where you’ll be involved across the full lifecycle, from initial design and build through to installation, commissioning, and ongoing improvement.
Working as part of a collaborative team but with strong individual responsibility, the role offers a mix of design work and practical, real-world engineering, including site-based troubleshooting and support when required.
Hybrid working is offered (typically 4 days on-site, 1 remote), reflecting the hands-on nature of the role.
Key Responsibilities
* Mechanical design using SolidWorks (3D models and 2D drawings)
* Improve reliability, performance, and scalability of systems
* Support full lifecycle delivery (design through to install and commissioning)
* Work with integrators and suppliers on system build and interfaces
* Optimise designs for manufacture, assembly, and cost
* Support site installs and troubleshooting (occasional EU travel)
What You’ll Need
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
* 7+ years’ experience in industrial or mechanical design
* Strong SolidWorks experience (preferred, not essential)
* Background in machinery, automation, or bespoke equipment
* Good understanding of fabrication and manufacturing processes
* Hands-on, problem-solving mindset
