How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor to join our team in Nottinghamshire. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all costs relating to construction projects, from initial calculations through to final accounts, ensuring value for money while maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance.

The Quantity Surveyor will play a key role in supporting project delivery by controlling budgets, managing contracts, reducing financial risk, and ensuring commercial success across a range of residential, commercial, and/or industrial developments.

    Key Responsibilities

    Cost Management

The Quantity Surveyor will prepare cost estimates, budgets, and tender documentation for new and ongoing projects. They will undertake feasibility studies and cost planning for proposed developments while monitoring project costs throughout all stages of construction. The role involves identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or compliance and preparing monthly cost/value reconciliation reports.

    Procurement and Tendering

Responsibilities include preparing bills of quantities and schedules of works, managing subcontractor and supplier tender processes, evaluating quotations, and negotiating contract terms. The successful candidate will recommend procurement strategies that optimise project value and support efficient project delivery.

    Contract Administration

The role requires administration of JCT and NEC contracts where applicable. This includes preparing interim valuations, managing variations and final accounts, assessing subcontractor applications and payments, overseeing change control processes, and ensuring contract compliance. The Quantity Surveyor will also help resolve commercial disputes and provide contractual advice where necessary.

    Site and Project Support

The Quantity Surveyor will attend site visits, progress meetings, and client meetings while working closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, and Design Teams. They will monitor project progress against financial forecasts and ensure projects remain commercially viable and financially controlled throughout delivery.

    Compliance and Reporting

The successful candidate will ensure compliance with UK construction regulations and industry standards while maintaining accurate records of project costs and contractual documentation. They will support audit requirements, internal financial controls, and provide regular commercial reports to senior management and stakeholders.

    Person Specification

    Essential Qualifications

Candidates should hold a degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline. Membership of RICS, or actively working towards chartership, is preferred. A valid UK driving licence is essential due to the requirement for regular site visits.

    Essential Experience

Applicants should have a minimum of three years’ experience in a Quantity Surveyor role within the UK construction industry. They should possess a strong understanding of construction contracts including JCT and NEC forms, along with experience managing subcontractor procurement and final accounts. Experience across residential, commercial, civils, or infrastructure sectors is highly desirable, along with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

    Essential Skills

The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent numerical and analytical skills, strong commercial awareness, and confident negotiation ability. High attention to detail and accuracy is essential, along with strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and standard quantity surveying software packages is required. The candidate must be capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team and possess strong organisational and time management skills.

    Desirable Skills

Experience using COINS, Causeway, or similar commercial management systems would be advantageous. Knowledge of modern methods of construction (MMC) and previous experience working with local authorities, developers, or main contractors would also be beneficial. Chartered status (MRICS) would be considered a strong advantage.

    Working Conditions

This role is primarily office-based in Nottinghamshire with regular site visits across the East Midlands. Standard working hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm, although some flexibility may be required to meet project deadlines and project demands.

    Salary and Benefits

The company offers a competitive salary based on experience, along with a company car allowance or mileage reimbursement. Additional benefits may include a pension scheme, private healthcare where applicable, an annual bonus scheme, professional development support including RICS progression, and holiday entitlement in addition to bank holidays.

    Success Measures

Success in this role will be measured by the delivery of projects within budget and agreed commercial targets, the accuracy of forecasting and cost reporting, effective subcontractor and supplier management, reduction of commercial risk and contractual disputes, and strong client and stakeholder satisfaction levels
