Multi Skilled Operative – Crown Farm Quarry, Northwich

Tarmac is recruiting a Multi Skilled Operative to join our team at Crown Farm Sand & Gravel Quarry, near Northwich. The site is easily accessible from Winsford, Middlewich, Rudheath, Barnton, Frodsham, Chester, Crewe, Sandbach, Congleton and the surrounding areas.

Working as part of a multi‑skilled operational team, you’ll support the production of dry aggregates for the construction industry while maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, environmental and quality performance.

Main Responsibilities

As a Multi Skilled Operative, your role will include (not exhaustive):

Operating mobile and static plant, including loading shovels
Handling and processing aggregates across the site
Carrying out weighbridge duties
Supporting day‑to‑day plant maintenance and ensuring high standards of housekeeping
Training on and operating static plant to support plant optimisation
Working collaboratively within a team of around 9 operatives to deliver high‑quality materials and on‑time customer service
Maximising plant availability and efficiency
Assisting the Supervisor with daily and weekly production targets
Promoting and maintaining a zero‑harm safety culture
Complying with all site health, safety and environmental procedures
Supporting risk assessments and safe systems of work across the site

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for this role will have experience in a quarry, aggregates, industrial or factory environment, preferably operating heavy plant or mobile equipment. Quarrying experience is desirable but not essential.

You’ll also be able to demonstrate:

Experience working in a health and safety‑critical environment
Good timekeeping and time management
Experience operating mobile plant (including loading shovels)
Knowledge of risk assessments and safe working practices
Flexibility to work across different tasks as part of a multi‑skilled team
A self‑motivated approach and the ability to work well with others
Strong communication skills
Full UK Driving Licence
IT literacy
Loading Shovel licence (preferred but not essential)

Previous experience as a Multi Skilled Operative is beneficial however, full training will be provided for the right candidate.
