How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Vet role in Kaitaia, NZ. Growth, community & balance. From $90k DOE. New Grads apply!

    Some places just feel right the moment you walk in. You can tell people like being there. You can tell the team actually gets on. And you can tell it’s a place where vets excel and not just cope. That’s Far North Vets.

    Based in Kaitaia, and founded in 2012 by local vet Nathan Cutler, Far North Vets has grown naturally, not fast, not forced, just well, from a one-person farm practice into a respected mixed clinic built on relationships, trust, and community.

    This friendly, community-rooted practice is looking for a vet to join their team. Ideally, you’ve got a couple of years’ experience, but a confident, motivated new grad with the right attitude, energy, and curiosity will be considered.

    This is a primarily small animal role, with most work focused on companion animal consults and surgery. There is an on-call component that may include a mix of small and large animal cases, so the ideal person is either a mixed vet, or a small animal vet who’s happy to get involved when needed.

    The important part? You’re never thrown in the deep end; there’s always backup, support, and someone on the end of the phone who’s got your back.

    The structure is genuinely flexible. The role can be full-time or part-time, and they’re open to splitting it between two part-time vets if that works better for the right people. After-hours callouts are infrequent, and any weekend worked is followed by two full days off, not token rest days, proper time to reset and breathe.

    Far North Vets was New Zealand’s first Lincoln Institute accredited Employer of Choice, and the culture actually lives up to the title. You’ll be supported the owner Nathan, an experienced small animal mentor, a brilliant regular locum, and a strong, down-to-earth nursing and tech team. It’s the kind of place where people laugh over coffee, help each other out without being asked, and genuinely care about doing good work together.

    What’s in it for you?

    * From $90k - $150k DOE

    * 4 weeks annual leave, more can be negotiated.

    * NZVA membership covered

    * Veterinary Council registration paid

    * CPD allowance

    * Accommodation provided for 6 months

    * Vehicle and equipment provided

    * Real mentoring and proper support

    * Flexible working options

    Life in Kaitaia

    Living in the Far North isn’t about “escaping the city,” it’s about choosing a better pace of life. Kaitaia offers space, community, simplicity and connection. Beaches, rivers, bush, farmland and open roads are all part of everyday life, not just weekend plans. No traffic. No long commutes. No chaos. Just fresh air, friendly faces, and weekends that actually feel like weekends.

    So, what’s next?

    If you’re looking for a role where your voice matters, your growth is encouraged, and your life outside work is just as important as the care you provide inside the clinic, this could be the move that changes everything.

    Forget the polished application; just reach out with whatever version of your CV you have on hand. We want to know the person, not just the paperwork.

    Join us in Kaitaia, where your work makes a difference, and your weekends make memories
