How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Assistant Construction Manager (Civil Engineering Background)

This opportunity is with a leading UK master developer delivering large-scale, infrastructure-led residential and mixed-use schemes. The business specialises in unlocking complex sites and delivering fully serviced plots for national housebuilders.

Their flagship Essex development will deliver over 3,700 homes alongside major infrastructure works, offering a long-term, multi-phase project environment.

This is a client-side role, providing exposure across the full development lifecycle - from design and pre-construction through to delivery and adoption, with a clear pathway into Construction Manager level.

    The Assistant Construction Manager’s Role

This is not a traditional Site Manager position. Instead, it is ideally suited to a civil engineer or infrastructure-focused individual looking to transition into a broader construction / development role.

You will act as the link between design, commercial, and on-site delivery teams, supporting the coordination and execution of infrastructure packages.

    Day-to-day, you will:

Support pre-construction activities, including design reviews, buildability input, and technical coordination

Oversee delivery of roads, drainage, utilities, and earthworks packages

Work closely with contractors, monitoring quality, programme, and compliance

Act as the on-site representative (“eyes and ears”) for the wider development team

Review drawings, specifications, and technical submissions

Coordinate with housebuilders and stakeholders across the wider development

Assist with adoption processes, handover, and defect resolution

Contribute to site-wide planning, logistics, and infrastructure sequencing

You will be working alongside experienced Construction Managers and senior stakeholders, gaining exposure across all stages of a major development.

    The Assistant Construction Manager

To be considered, you should have a strong engineering-led background, with a desire to move into a more strategic construction role:

Background as a Civil Engineer / Setting Out Engineer / Site Engineer

Experience within groundworks, infrastructure, or highways schemes

Exposure to Section 278 works, drainage, utilities, and road construction

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications

Some experience overseeing or coordinating subcontractors on site

Understanding of site processes, quality, and H&S compliance

Proficient with AutoCAD or similar (advantageous but not essential)

Ambitious and looking to progress into a Construction Manager role

Tickets such as SSSTS / SMSTS and CSCS are beneficial.

In Return for the Assistant Construction Manager?

    £50,000 – £60,000 salary (depending on experience)

    Discretionary annual bonus

    25 days annual leave

    10% employer pension contribution

    Private healthcare (family cover)

    Dental insurance

    Death in service (4x salary)

Long-term career progression on a flagship, multi-phase development

If you are a Civil Engineer or Assistant Construction Manager looking to step into a broader development role, please get in touch to discuss this opportunity further.
